I had a similar problem with my car when I first got it and it was simply a
problem with the mechanical linkeage under the recall shield in the engine bay
(the region that is readily accessible on the top part of the engine area where
the throttle cable goes around the "spool", but is under a little shield if you
have the recall installed). The cable was binding a bit so the throttle "lever"
did not return to the full off position. Also, I had to adjust the little
adjustment screw on the "lever" so that it properly depressed the idle switch.
Check to make sure that the idle switch is getting activated when the engine is
idling and that the cable is not binding and preventing a full return.

Sorry about my lack of proper technical terminology. I can't for the life of me
remember what the various do-hickeys are called today.

I'm having the same problem...
After coming to a complete stop, the engine would idle higher then
it was suppose to, and a quick tap on the brake solved it until the next
stop...at times, the engine would die. Like a stick will if the car itself
is going slower then the engine is, it will die...
Your throttle plate may be hanging up.
I'd check the throttle plate and fuel filters...as that was my
problem...All better now and working good as new...

Anyone ever seen one of these around? The catch on my glove box is broken, and
I'd like to replace it with alocking one. I seem to recall having seen one in an
old DeLorean World, but can't find it now. Thanks!

One possibility is a sticking throttle. If the linkage is gummed up the
throttle may not return to a fully closed position. If this is serious enough
the idle speed control may not be able to compensate.

Check to see that the throttle is actually recoiling to the full neutral position. Mine would get stuck at a high idle position and I could not pop it
back down from the gas pedal. I can't recommend a fix since I took the car
apart and have not gotten it back together yet. My suspicion is that the
throttle cable is a little tight and will replace it in due time. Let me know
what you find.

Subject: ASI Radio parts

At the expo I discovered that the knobs and faceplate on my '82's ASI radio were
incorrect. Apparently the cars previous owner had a different stereo in the car,
and then when he returned the factory stereo to the car when he sold it, he no
longer had the knobs and faceplate, so he just put on something that fit. Don
Steger at DeLorean Motor Center in Garden Grove, CA (714) 554-6794 has a LOT of
ASI radio parts, and was able to get me a set of knobs and a faceplate. As I
understand it, he also services ASI radios.
