I believe they were sold and later used as weights for a fishing
and cannery company. They've recently been purchased by someone who's
plans are uncertain to me.

Well, while I have no doubt of the quality of work, they've very
expensive, ($900+ for a one way ticket through them with their pick-up
service)...
Their refurbished DeLorean's are a straight $27,000 Ed Bernstein
informed me...he also did anything he could to convince me I didn't need to
trade mine in...telling me that I should, instead, send mine down, have
them go through it and fax me with a list of what could possibly be done to
it, have me fax them back with what I want done, fly down there, and drive
it back up m'self...(Considering the price, I'd like to be able to drive it
DOWN there...the price of gas would be a LOT cheaper...
But then, I'm in washington....I don't know where you are.
Luck to you...

Oh, and yes...I have a large selection of pics, pictures,
calendars, PNDC newsletters, De Gull Wing Magazines, DeLorean One
Magazines, etc.etc...Let me know if anything interests you...I've compiled
most of my documentation into a large book...and I manufacture an
assortment of calendars...(currently working on a 1996 full year calendar)

The Renault Fuego was, in fact, imported to the US for a while. Although it
was never a resoundingly popular car, I'll wager there were more of them than
DeLoreans. A foreign-car junkyard would be a good place to look. I cannot
vouch for the interchangeability of the interior lights, tho...

Anybody have any suggestions for a car alarm system for the DeLorean?
I don't want anything fancy, perhaps just a starter kill switch...nobody
ever pays attention to those annoying, screeching alarms. What have
other owners done in regard to this? Does it mess up it's "original"
value at all? Any help would be greatly appreciated--my wife and I are
picking up our "new" DeLorean today!!!!

The Renault Fuego was indeed imported to these shores, between 1982 and 1985 if
memory serves me. Though hardly a major seller, quite a few more of these were
sold than of DeLoreans. I even see one of these occasionally - which is more
than I can say for seeing DeLoreans on the street, at least around Chicago. By
now, the majority of Renault Fuegos should be in junkyards, as these cars were
notorious for engine problems [especially with the turbocharged model] and poor
assembly quality. Can't say how well a Fuego interior light would fit the
DMC-12 - it's been too long since I've seen the light assemblies. However,
you're welcome to find one and try it out - and let the rest of us know about
it.

P.S. From what I understand, Hummer parts tend to be ridiculously expensive -
but I suppose DeLorean owners should be used to that by now, right? 8-)

Due to the financial bath that HRM's gov't took they were incensed when
they heard that JZD was going to produce the car in the US, actually
KAPAC was going to produce the car. The decision was to stop JZD from
making fools of them - it was not an economic decision. The dies were
dumped in the North Sea (English territory). KAPAC sent divers over
because they didn't believe what had been done - there they were
resting on the bottom with no possibility of salvaging them. It seems
that everyone involved in DMC got screwed except John Z - as the old
saying goes "always use someone else's money when you can."

The DeLorean body dies were bought by a company called Emerald
Fisheries when the DeLorean factory closed. I have heard that they ended
up on the bottom of Galway Bay in N. Ireland and are still being used by
the company as a man-made reef. There were a few attemps to retrieve the
dies in the mid 80s, but I believe it proved to be too expensive. I
don't remember what issue it is, but within the past two years DeLorean
World reprinted two newspaper articles discussing these retrieval
attempts. If anyone has heard anything else since, please let me know.

The interior light fixture is the same one that was used on a Renault or
a Fuego in 1981 and the quality shows. I admit that it is going to be a
major exercise to find a Renault dealer who might have one of these in
stock, but it is undoubtedly easier than finding these fixtures from a
DeLorean dealer. If this lead produces success, I 'm sure that everone
would like to hear about it.

Subject: New e-mail address from the DeLorean Webmaster -- Part I

Hi Everyone,

I have just moved and am working on getting a new e-mail address from
another server. This way, there is no more "weekend addresses" and
"weekday addresses". Also, a better service and a faster response time.

I know serveral of you have been trying to get a hold of me, and I have
gotten all your e-mails. Over 100 e-mails have accumulated over the past
2-weeks, so please be patient as I will try to answer everyone.

The DeLorean Web Page will remain where it is. So there is no concern.
The information can be updated through "jumping" onto my other server for
free, even though it is hundereds of miles away. This is what's so great
about the Internet.

Thank you all for supporting the web pages. If you have any questions or
comments, feel free to contact me. The new e-mail address will be posted
in the next issue of DMCnews. Though my address is set, I want to make
sure all the technical glitches are worked out before I leash it to
everyone in the world. In the mean time, feel free to write to my old
address at "Takeuchi(AT)peak.org". I can still get it from here.
