Dear Fellow Delorean Owners,
I take very good care of my Delorean and yesterday,
some idiot hit my car and took off. I was parked at a parking
meter and the person next to me must have opened his car door
right into mine.
I was wondering if anyone has had dents removed from
the stainless steel. The dent is about 2 inches in diameter and
is 1/2 inch deep. The dent has a kink in it and the paint from
his car scratched up the surrounding area. It is located on the
rear driver side panel right below the triangular window.
If anyone, has successfully removed dents please let me
know. I live in Maryland. So suggestions for places on the East
Coast are more than welcome. Is the PJ Grady's in New York the
closest place to Maryland to have this problem fixed?

I was reading an old DML snipped message today and I noticed that someone had
mentioned that the serial # for the start of the 1982 year model was #01126.
Has anyone seriously questioned that? I have #01149 and it has the gas cap flap
and grooves - a clear sign of being an 81, and on top of that an 'early' 81.
Anyone care to claim to be the author of that message? I would like to discuss
it and clear the record for others.

This is obviously wrong. I do not remember reading that
post, and I though I had read them all. I am pretty sure there
were no 82's made with four digit VINs. DeLorean #1126 had
to be made about May of 1981, too early to be called an '82
in anyone's book! Maybe a decimal place was missing.

I have #01149 and it has the exact paint job. Was this the work
of the previous owner, who was the original owner but has since
passed on, or was it truly a factory job? It has also shown up
in two different test car photos in the 'DeLorean 1977 - 1983'
book. Can any of you owners out their with serial #'s around
#01149 let me know if you have the same painted letters? Much
appreciated.

No alarm system - I live in a town where we don't even lock the doors to
our homes. In a major city I would have been very careful about how and
where I parked, but this was in a hotel parking lot (I was assured it was
patrolled) and in Lincoln Nebraska - LINCOLN NEBRASKA??? - oh well, live
and learn.
BTW, I lived in Los Angeles for over 25 years and was convinced that car
alarms were of little value. They went off constantly and no one paid
attention.

Trips in the DeLorean are what it is all about! Have done 6-8 of over 2000
miles round trip and one of 5000miles. Yes, wife goes with me and yes,
even with the luggage rack, it is crowded. You learn to pack very well.
There is one advantage, the wife buys less at the antiques store (I haven't
told her about UPS yet!)
Haven't had the tail light problem, but thanks for bringing it to our attention.

I have to agree with Mike, I don't remember this either, though I'm not
as young as I once was ;)
Myabe it was supposed to read 10126.

Subject: Care and feeding of the binnacle & das
I jsut bought a new binnacle while I was at KAPAC to replace my brown and
cracked existing unit. This is not an inexpensive item, so I would like
to keep this one is great shape for a s long as possible. I've been told
that Armor All turns thing brown, so I'm looking for suggestions on what
to use. Bear in mind that I live in a very hot and dry climate with a lot
of sunlight. I do use a foil covered sunshade, but still want to know
what to treat the binnacle and dash with.

I use Armor All on my black binnacle all the time, and there
is no sign of brown. My original binnacle is still in perfect
shape. Armor All will temporarily turn your *tires* and
*sunshade* kind of grey, and it is not good for the *fascias*
either. But Armor All does a great job of protecting my black
interior. Different protectants work for different parts of the
car.
Of course I don't live in Arizona. In Cleveland we get high
heat & humidity for six months, then we are freezing cold
and bone dry for six months. Vinyl gets cracked and brittle
here, but seldom loses its color. Armor All works really well
on black vinyl in these conditions.

>My favorite type of car alarm is a paging system. Most will page about a mile
to a little pager in your pocket. Then you can come running to the rescue.
I always thought a DeLorean would be ideal for a 80,000 Volt shocking system.
Most of these systems are about as effective as a stun gun and will really
"SHOCK" the crook. The only problem with this type of alarm is it could lay
out a kid or an old lady and you could end up with a lawsuit on your hands.

Hi SF-
Yep had an alarm that would wake the dead, trouble was that it didn't
wake the living. When I went to the PD precinct, in Brooklyn, to report
the break in one of the detectives told me that even if I had seen the
breaking in my best move would have been to walk in the other direction.
In addition to the alarm I have the DEWECO ignition cut off but you have
to be realistic, if they want it they'll flat bed the D away ... the
only saving grace is that the car is so unusual the probability of it
being stripped for parts is kind of remote and tracing a stolen one,
unless it was sent out of the US, should be relatively simple ... I
hope.

Hi Virginia,
Had worse SS damage than yours but under similar circumstances. Had the
creases taken out and the entire front fascia, which was cracked,
repaired so that you could never tell. The work was done at Chromy
Automotive, 43-17 39th Ave., Long Island City, NY 718-361-2220 ask for
Tim. For the most part they work on RR's, Jag's and antique
restorations. Mine was the first D but their personnel are all older
european craftsmen.

In addition to the kill switch ... just pull up the roll-over switch.
"They" may get in, may connect or jump the ignition wires but it will
never start because the fuel pump is disabled.

In my book anyone can break in and steal a stereo, but it
takes mega kahonies to steal a whole DeLorean in broad
daylight! I feel conspicuous enough driving a DeLorean down
the street as it is, and I *own* it! Everyone notices the car.
It attracts witnesses like crazy.
Me: "Excuse me, have you seen a DeLorean today?"
Witness: "Yeah! About 2 o'clock. It went that way."
This effect may not really make a DeLorean theft easier to
solve. But if I were a car thief I would be pretty nervous about
trying to slink away inconspicuously in a DeLorean! I would
rather not mess with someone who is that crazy.

Subject: DeLoreans on display
Over the weekend I went to "Charlie Sens' Antique
Automobile Museum" in Marion, Ohio (center of the state).
For those who attended the Kapac tour, it is about 25
minutes north of Dave Bauerle's place.
It is a very new museum featuring hundreds of old, American
made cars. Some are quite rare (Cord 810) and others are
really interesting (assortment of Model T's with racing
bodies). They claim all of them could be driven at a
moment's notice. Few museums can claim the same.
The only exceptions to the "old & American made" rule in the
Charlie Sens collection are *two* perfect DeLoreans. For
those keeping score, here are the particulars:
First DeLorean:
1981 VIN # 3014 with 51,968 miles on the clock. It is
displayed with the doors wide open (struts must be really
good). It has the gas flap & style lines, and the luggage
comparment lid is slightly bent in the left-rear corner. It has
the Craig radio with presets. The wheels are light colored
and the interior is grey. The rear tires are Yokahama, the
front tires are Nitto.
Second DeLorean
1983 VIN# 20040 with 3,419 miles. It is displayed with the
doors closed. No gas cap and no style lines, and the
luggage lid fits nice and flush. It has a radio that says DMC
on the front (would that be ASI?). The wheels are light and
the interrior is grey. All four tires are Goodyears.
So now I have two questions. I have never heard of Nitto tires
for the DeLorean. Does anyone else have Nitto's on their
DeLorean? And am I right when I say the radio with the DMC
logo is an ASI unit?
