I was wondering if anyone could tell me the address of a car museum in the St.
Louis area that for sure has a DeLorean on display. I guess this inquiry is
addressed to Chase Clark, since he lives in MO, too. I saw a D when I was very
young and sat in the Back to The Future one, but since then I have never actually
been in the prescence of one. I can barely remember what it was like, actually.
As soon as I get the money, I plan to buy one, but until then, I was hoping
somenody could tell me a good place where I can gawk at one.

No, the cheaper cruise controls don't come with this sensor, because some new
cars already have one. They get attached to several places, like the wheel, the
cable or inside the spedometer. I just couldn't find one that fits 'our' car.

New Wheels!
While in Oklahoma City, (to get partial DMC clip) I spoke by phone with a
Mr. Hatton in Southwest OK. He has three new wheels (2-front) and one rear light
color and wants about $200 each. He bought parts from an ex-dealer and may have
some other small parts but I don't know what else. He can be reached at
(405) 482-3798. Very Nice guy to talk to and he has a DMC-12.
NEED COIL COVER!!! I'm still looking for a coil cover!! It is getting critical
with chances for rain drowning out the car. Please help me locate one!
Also found ad in Oklahoma City paper for car with 20,00 miles running in good
shape so said owner who gave me Mr. Hatton's name as possible parts source. Car
is 5-speed grey interior. Honestly, I can't remember his price ($12,000- 14,000?).
His first name is Jolie at (405) 632-8068. I didn't see the car.

(aux air) pricing.
I am sharing the following just to illustrate how a little research and use of
the net could help with your maintence/upkeep. I've not been happy with the idle
on my DMC so I finally broke down, and took it to a local BOSH shop with a good
reputation (expensive but good). The diagnosic was what I expected and the
mechanic adjusted CO etc. Got a call that the idle motor was bad and that the
cost would be about $550 plus installation/ adjustment of $150 (approx costs).
I felt this price was really excessive; I looked up the Volvo parts list supliers
I found on the net (don't have www address other than "VOLVO-NET") and called one
that looked good " Kore-Tek, 4060 Acushnet Ave, New Bedford, MA 02745 (800)
258-0940, (508) 995-3755 ; electrical reman of Bosch stuff & harnes." I gave them
the BOSCH number found on the part and the sales person confirmed availability and
shipment rates. Their price for the idle motor was approx $145 and they said they
could ship it via UPS next-day for about $17. Should get it tommorrow. Great phone
service! Anyway, the Bosch garage said they wouldn't install "walk in parts from
another source" and I told them to close my service tab and I picked up the car for
service cost of ca. $140.

Mike:
There are about five DeLoreans in the hands of individuals in the St. Louis area,
plus another in High Hill. I will be heading through St. Louis in a few hours on
my way to the DeLorean Parts Depot (aka KAPAC), but will be taking a van instead
of my DeLorean as I can't figure out how to safely haul a new windshield back to
Missouri inside the cramped DMC-12. Although it did cross my mind to have the old
one removed and a new one installed while in Ohio, but I decided that was not the
best approach.
Get in touch with me again via email or phone and I'll tell you what I can about
owners in your area. Who knows, perhaps I'll be bringing my car up that way on
business sometime soon and we could get together for a short while and talk cars.

Subject: Re: Safety and yesterday's accident
Hi all,
Yesterday I had my first accident (I'm 29). I was rear-ended by a woman on Rt. 287
who didn't stop in time and admitted fault. I got rammed at about 20 MPH. Her
Toyota's front end was completely destroyed. Her hood was crumpled like cardboard.
She hit me so hard that pieces of her front headlights were shot over two lanes.
My DeLorean has not an external scratch. If you looked at my car you wouldn't know
that it was in an accident. VERY close inspection will show imperfections, but I'm
damn impressed by the DeLorean's safety design.
My car suffered relatively minor damage. The rear was pushed in, so the muffler was
slightly damaged. In turn, the crank pulley was knocked out of alignment. That in
turn caused the muffler's bracket to rub against the air conditioner pulley which
was of course getting eaten away with every revolution.I was able to get the car
home....16 miles in stop-and-go traffic with the damage I stated above. I suffered
a bump on the head (ouch) and my neck's a bit stiff this morning, but who knows how
I'll feel in a week. Screw what anyone says, I'm impressed by how the DeLorean held
up to the force it was hit with. I wish I could show all of you pictures of the
Toyota vs. my car. The Toyota literally looks like it hit a brick wall.
All this after spending a day before at PJ Grady to have some minor problems fixed!
Now I have to have the car towed to Long Island for an estimate. Rob's been real nice
about helping me out. I actually called him from the accident to let him know what I
was going to need in advance. I'm just pissed that I finally get the car in good shape
(I've had it since late August) and the next day this
happens. My car was at a dead stop, I even had the time to take the car out of gear
(which I do witha stick to keep pressure off the clutch plate). I even had time to
look in the rear view mirror to see her coming at me. Not a good feeling.
I was going to take the car to my college's homecoming game this Saturday afternoon.
I guess it's going to have to wait until next year :(.

I was in a pretty serious accident involving two other cars. Both the other cars
were totalled and one person was injured. While both the other cars were scrapped
on the spot,I drove mine home afterwards. I suffered no injury whatsoever and the
total damage to mycar was about $4000. Repair of my car was fast and easy --
dispose of trashed steel panels+ fixup some fiberglass damage + attach new panels.
Even knowing where the damage was, there is no way you could tell.
I also have a local chapter member that had a similar experience.
>Also, are non-D owners able to visit local chapters? No, not in on actual meetings,
but are there any other get-togethers that one may be able to check in on?
Although it is called "DeLorean Owners Association," there is nothing that says you
have to be an _owner_ to join. I sometimes invite a non-member to an event or two
as a recruiting tool, but I think if a person wants to participate that it would be
reasonable to ask him to join the club.

About 12 years ago I hit a deer in my new Volvo GLE Wagon. It jumped off a bank
in front of me while I was doing 55 through the mountains going to Portland. Hit
it dead center, no damage to either fender. Neither of us were even jarred and I
got the car stopped safely in spite of the hood that popped up blocking my view.
The car was not driveable since the radiator had been pushed back against the block.
Total cost of repairs was $3,900.00.
About 8 years ago I had the same thing happen while driving my DMC, except that I
was going about 60-65 mph. Dead center, no it didn't go over the car, it went under.
My guess is that it fell as it hit the pavement, lucky! I drove the car into
portland and went to "Tonkins" and ordered parts. I needed a parking light and grill
block and misc. brackets that had been bent. The reason for the grill block was that
it popped out on impact and before I could pick it up a motor home ran over it. The
facia needed to be repainted because of compression fractures in the paint. Oh, it
needed a grill screen too. Total cost was less than $800.00.
I think R&T published insurance actuarial tables back when the DMC was still in
production showing it to be the 2nd least expensive car to repair per incident.
Everything I've experienced or seen convinces me that the DeLorean is one of the
safest cars on the road, even now.

A very good point indeed...hehehe
I have, however, noticed that probably the majority of the "offroad" and
"Four-By's" out there tend to use the exact same roads I use, and rarely do I see
the telltale signs of offroad use (mudd and dirt) Perhaps it's to insure that if
ever the day comes that all the roads suddenly dissapear, they'll be in good shape.
In addition, I can imagine considering a 4X kit if I intended to go back in time
and was uncertain as to the existence of roads. Otherwise, no...
But then, I don't have to drive it, so...*shrug*...I'm usually fine with whatever
anyone wants to drive and how they want to keep their vehicle, as long as it
doesn't end up in my way or force some inconvenience upon me because of it.
Irritation is an inconvenience in my eyes and feeling my DeLorean vibrate because
someone else wants to polute the air with "Maga Bass" counts as an irritation in
my book.
Oh, dear me, first time in months my DeLorean hasn't started, the battery just
couldn't overcome the cold. And winter isn't even in full force yet. Remind me to
set that garrage up with a heater. Does anybody have experience with battery and
head warmers...?

Did any of you see/purchase this issue, and in your estimation, is it worth

Dave,
Most chapters are more than happy whenever anyone shows an interest. The policy
varies by chapter though, so I would check with the individual chapter
co-ordinators (follow the link from the DOA web page

If you are going to be in the Palm Springs area the weekend of Dec 7/8, you might

The article in question was written by Bruce Benson who enters into these
discussions with some frequency. Bruce is much to modest to comment upon the
article, so I will. It is a short but positive article on the DeLorean (with
emphasis on the fun of driving such a car on long trips) and also gave a plug to
the DOA. The photo's are not stock publicity shots, but are of Bruce's car and
the others of us who were in the caravan he refers to. You get a peek at the

DMC list members,
I just wanted to warn anyone against lending any DMC materials for James Espey,
the DMC mailing list moderator. At this point, James seems to have stolen my 1981
owner's manual which I lent him several months back (unlikely though that sounds).
I have no idea why he is doing this, as our interactions were always quite positive
up to this point.
Background
==========
Several months ago (6/4/96), James posted to the list asking to borrow a 1981
owner's manual for his CD-ROM project. He said he'd only need it for a day to
scan some pages. I immediately volunteered and sent it to him 2nd day at my own
expense (it seemed a reasonable thing to do... especially since James had gone
to the trouble of creating and running the mailing list, a service I appreciated).
I thought mine would be a good one to scan, as it was in pristine condition.
James acknowledged receipt of the manual and said he's send it back in a couple
days. Here's the text of message he sent on 6/8/96:
>The handbook arrived yesterday, and I have copied all the text pages for OCR'ing
later. I am working on the photos now. I expect to send this back to you Monday.
Did you notice that the one you sent me says "SECOND EDITION" at the bottom of the
"Foreward" page? Does your other one say that, too? I'm just curious what changed
between the first and second editions. The world may never know...thanks again!
>James
This was several months ago. I waited a while accounting for the normal delays
people encounter getting something done, but eventually I sent him a friendly
reminder... no answer. Then a few weeks later I sent him another still friendly
reminder... no answer. Then I sent him another email a few weeks later asking
where the manual was and why he wasn't even bothering to answer my emails...
again no response. I just sent him a final note (less friendly) expressing my
disappointment and annoyance. As I said to him, I hate it when I regret doing
something nice for someone.
::jory bell
ps: I'll try posting this to the DMC list. If that doesn't work (ie if James
censors it) I will go through my archives of the list and sent it to people
who who have posted to the list, which should be a sizable portion of the list
membership (or at least those likely to lend something to james!)
