First of all, your > (defrost, heater or vent) The air comes out the
vents
problem
is NOT electrical. All dampers are vacuum controlled. Problem can
be different places but most of the time its the selector switch itself.
Check
for vacuum leaks, hisssss !!!!!! The cooling fan problem is probably
caused by the fact that you probably still have the little blue fan fail
module installed.

I've heard from several places (volvo dealer, volvo mechanics, FAQs,

Delorean owners have any comments on this? Has anyone had to replace
their cam shaft before?

Did someone say that one could change the accumulator from above? I
heard that it was suggested here. Would that be less trouble than
lifting it ? Is any of this in the workshop manual? Any help would be

From: James Nichols
Subject: Re: DML: Diodes

Richard Strecker asked about placing a diode across his clock leads. A
one amp 50 volt diode should be adequate, since the spike is negative
and the diode is being forard biased and conducting and thus shorting
out the spike. Normally it just sits there being reversed biased with
12 to 15 volts and not conducting. Just connect the banded end to the
positive lead and the non banded end to the negative lead and insulate
the positive side. This would undoubtedly eliminate a negative spike
(really recuce it to 0.6 Volt), but you might want to reduce it at it's
source too, probably the magnet that engages the compressor cluch.

Wow! I thought that I had big spikes that would jump the tach 500 RPM
or so, but I never had one strong enough to reset my clock. A lot of
voltage can be generated when a big inductor collapses, like a
compressor cluch magnet. Remember the old viberator radios that would
produce an 85 volt plate voltage from a 6 volt source?

I installed a 2.5 amp 400 volt diode (a 50 volt would have worked just
as well, but this is the one I had), banded side to the compressor
supply wire and non banded side to a convenient grounded screw that
holds the wire bracket in place.
1. Just free the supply wire
2. Remove a half inch of insulation from the wire about two inches from
the screw near the pulley (use 2/3 the length of the diode leads for a
measurement).
3. Solder the banded end in place on the wire
4. Attach the nonbanded end under the screw that holds the wire clip
near the pulley
5. Slip some heat shrink over it shrink it.
6. Reattach the supply wire to the pigtail from the harness.

Now when the compressor cuts off the tach smooooooothly increases 200 or
so RPM, no jumps at all.

I did check the wiring diagram and only one diode shows. It's used to
turn on the fans when the compressor is powered. The wiring harness in
the manuals list eight diodes, four three amp and two one amp. Does
anyoue know what they do? There are numerous capacitors in the wiring
diagram. Most seem to be wired as bypass or filter capacitors, and
several are wired across the brushes of DC motors (mirror motors) to
reduce arcing and noise. One is from alternator output to ground to
elimilate alternator whine. Most of the capacitators were single digit
(less than 10 MFD) and would not be capable of absorbing much of a
voltage spike. The fans shutting off do not seem to be a problem, but
I'll find out more after I drive at night with the lights on.

My 1981 DeLorean has had all of the standard electrical retro-fits as
performed by Delorean One in Houston about 5 years ago. Yesterday my car
would not start. I checked the fuse box for the fuel pump fuse. The 20
amp
fuse and the fuse holder in junction box had melted. About a year ago a
similar starting problem had occurred and I removed a jumper with a fuse
which appeared to be in series with the fuel pump fuse because it had
melted. What is going on here? Has anyone else experienced this problem?
I replaced the fuse and everything worked fine. I am afraid that there is
an intermittent short or the circuit is not properly fused and I will
catch
on fire. Does anyone have any experience and advice here?

    Thanks a million.

Studebaker R-2 Supercharged restored to excellent condition. I anticipate
leaving Columbia, MO for another job and don't know what garage storage
we'll end up with in a new location. Therefor I am offering at auction
with
presently firm reserve price of $18,500 for the DMC 12 with 14700 miles
(automatic) and $18,000 for the Avanti (subject to prior sale by owner).

The auction will be held at 2505 Shepard Blvd. Columbia, MO 65201 on
October 12, 1997 at 1:00 pm. Anyone intested in attending or wanting
information on the cars can call me at (573) 442-2795 or email at

for
at time on DOA's home page with the get away car used by my son and
daughter-in-law's after their wedding under the title "On to the Future".

I'd rather someone with special intest purchased the cars than to have to
store them until we get settled in a new location.

The cars may be purchased prior to the auction but prices are firm.

This is to invite you to an exciting event in the DeLorean continuing
saga.
DeLorean Motor Company and Stephen Wynne are pleased to announce the
acquisition of the largest inventory of DeLorean parts in the world.
After successful negotiations with Kapac/DeLorean in Columbus,
DMC/Houston now owns and controls a 46,000 square foot warehouse filled
with DeLorean spare parts. This is great news for DeLorean owners. They
may now be assured of parts availability for years to come.

The gathering in Columbus will give the participants an opportunity to
tour the DMC warehouse in Columbus, Ohio to see this massive inventory of
DeLorean parts.

DMC is also pleased to have acquired the services of Leif Montin, who
will assist in the control, organization and distribution of the parts
inventory. Leif was the National Parts manager for the original DeLorean
Motor Company in Irvine, California. Leif will be available during this
event to give some inside background of the DeLorean "start-up" and to
answer questions about the early days of the first DMC.

Rob Grady, of P.J. Grady, Long Island, will present a tech seminar. A
partially assembled DeLorean will be used for the presentation.

The event schedule will be as follows:

Friday, October 31, 7:30pm to whenever - Informal get-together at
DeLorean Hospitality suite at the Crown Plaza, downtown Columbus.

Saturday, November 1, 8:00am to 8:30am - Complimentary coffee at the DMC,
Columbus warehouse.

Saturday, November 1, 8:30am to noon - First group will tour the Parts
Warehouse while the first group attends the Tech Seminar.

Saturday, November 1, noon to 1:30pm - Lunch break.

Saturday, November 1, 1:30pm to 5:00pm - Second group tours the warehouse
and the first group attends the Tech seminar.

Saturday, November 1, 6:00 and 6:30pm - Informal, no-host group dinner
and Barcelona restaurant (One of Columbus most fashionable). Due to
limited space, there will be two seatings and availability is on a
first-come, first serve basis).

Sunday, November 2, 10:00am - A second tour of the Parts Warehouse for
those interested.

A special room rate of $89.00 per night has been negotiated at Crown
Plaza hotel for attendees. Reservations should be made no later than
October 8th, 1997 by contacting the Crown Plaza at the following
address/phone: Crown Plaza Hotel, 33 Nationwide Boulevard, Columbus, OH
43215, phone 614-461-4100, fax 614-461-5828.

Special parts pricing on selected items will be offered at this event and
part orders submitted will be shipped, freight prepaid, if required.

Payment options are American Express, Mastercard, Visa, Discover Card,
cash and checks.

Please pre-register with DMC (Houston) for our planning. If
pre-registering with DMC by October 15th, a special gift will be put
aside for you and awarded at the event in Columbus. We are looking
forward to a fantastic event and hope to see you there. You will not be
disappointed.

I don't have an original Delorean key (would love one) my key is a Volvo
key.
I've had copy made of my key, also on Volvo blanks. Theoretically there no
reason anybody with a key cutter couldn't copy your present key using your
Delorean blanks theoretically !

That's what I was getting at!! I don't really have a DMC key, because the
previous owner snapped it in half. Sure, you could get a key cutter to
cut
a DMC key, but where on earth can you find one??? And if you do find one,
people want $79.00. That's insane! Although, rumor has it that a guy in
England has two barrels full of blank DMC keys. And he's been threatening
to destroy them. Why does he want to do that? Because he hates JZD. I
think he's nuts. A lot of DeLorean owners could use a new DMC keys.

Hello again:
well got up this morning to face another day of "fun fixing" the "D".
as the story go's, seems a fuse had overheated and stopped the
fuel-pump from getting 12VDC. Check this out -the fuse was GOOD, just
a bad connection, so, after a little burnishing of the fuse mounting,
plugged it in and ....BBBBBbbbbzzzzzzzzzzzzz went the fuel pump...
car started right up ....purrrrrrrrring like a kitten again.......
so called my friend up to come over to go to lunch...... THE CAR
STARTED ran like a top we had lunch, then for the "BIG" test, out to
I-95 and 70/75 MPH...... smooth as silk.... however when I put the
AC on HIGH (4th speed) NOTHING---- nothing at all, back to 3 and all
was great, well of course I'm sure u all know , seperate relays for 3
and 4. replaced the relay..... now it blows "COLD" on 4..........
the only thing i can say at this point... if u buy a car that has
been sitting for about 6/7 years, you better plan on cleaning a lot
of relays and check a lot of wiring....
tomorrow is "find out about the window on the passanger side, why it
doesn't work, after being replaced by the car dealer in mid-june.
P.S. changed the plugs, rotor cap and button, using a
WIX AIR FILTER #46112
DISTRIBUTOR CAP STANDARD GB-426
ROTOR BUTTON STANDARD GB-332

Oh a quick fix- for the "BATTERY DRAIN" a lot of u guys have been
talking about --with the "DOOR LIGHTS" just reach up behind the door
switch, u know, the one that turns the side door lights on/off, and
just pull the plug loose, the lights "WON'T LIGHT" and your battery
stays happy , with less drain, then just plug -em in and your off,
real simple and quick

happend by the grout samples. I noticed a color called "Delorean grey,"
and
went nuts. This has to be after the car, because I cant think of anything
else grey by the name of Delorean, other than the car. Anyone else ever
heard of this color?

One of the primary causes of heat build up in the electrics is increased
resistance caused by poor connections. Stephen Wynne did a tech seminar a
couple of years ago in Iowa and during it talked of the importance of
making
sure all the connector blades on the fuses were clean. Even if they look
good they can be dirty or oxidized enough to be a potential problem. He
suggested using a very fine sand paper to gently polish the surface of
each
blade.

Several years ago a friend had a fuel pump problem by which he blew fuse
#7
at least once on every drive he took. Finally the car refused to start
altogether. We checked the continuity between the inertia switch and the
fuel pump and found none. After running a new wire between the switch and
the fuel pump everything worked fine and has ever since. We had heard
that a
few cars had a problem with the wiring loom being bent too sharply in the
left front fender and guessed that maybe the fuel pump wire was gradually
breaking strands and there-by increasing the resistance until it finally
broke. That was only a guess but, what ever, we made things work again.

If you think you may have a short in the fuel pump circuit, try removing
the
ground wire from the battery and putting an meter, capable of reading
milliamps, between the battery ground and the ground wire. Make sure
everything is off, including the interior lights. If you get a reading of
more than a few milliamps, you may have a problem. Remove the fuel pump
fuse
and see if the reading changes. If it changes somewhat significantly
you'll
have to look deeper for the answer. There are a number of places to check
including the connections at the pump itself, the inertia switch and its
connections, and the various plugs along the wiring loom that feeds the
front of the car. There have been stories about electrical melt downs and
even fires in the fuse box area. Some even recommend keeping the cover off
the box but if all the connections are in good condition there shouldn't
be
any problem.

I saw this myself and was curious enough that I did a little research and
wrote an article about it. Tune in to the next issue of the 'zine, due
out in November, for details on how this product's color came to be!

Steve's idea notwithstanding, the switches themselves cost just a few
bucks each, and it's a simple thing to replace. Make sure tha the
switches have the rubber cover on the end, this extends the switch a bit
more to ensure it closes completely. Additionally, I had a problem with
an intermittent door light. All that was needed was a gentle cleaning of
the contacts.

Anyone else heard this one? How 'bout our man in the UK, Martin? Maybe
Robert in Belfast? I was one of the "insane" people that paid $79 for a
key blank for my '82, and while I can't say it was the msot important
purchase I ever made for my car, it looks nice and original as only an
original can.

When I designed and had my current house built 10 years ago I also came
across
DeLorean Grey grout and immediately snapped it up for use in the tiled
areas of the
house. It's rather light in color but went great with the tiles I
chose.

Subject: DML: Regarding the "Unzustellbar!" messages

Recent contributors to the DeLorean Mailing List may have received a
message with the subject "Unzustellbar!" followed by some German text.
Rumors that Mercedes and/or BMW have taken a sudden interest in the
DeLorean and are planning to distribute the long-rumored "D2" are simply
not true.

A German susbcriber dropped his internet account without unsubscribing
from the DeLorean Mailing List, so all messages posted were bounced back
to the senders. I believe this has been remedied. If anyone else receives
an "Unzustellbar!" message in the future, please let me know.

Thanks to the lists members who pointed this out to me, and the list

Subject: DML: New DeLorean Owner with Questions

Hello Everyone,

I just purchased my first DeLorean (#5982) last week.
I am looking for some help on a few items I would like to fix before I =
store it.

First - I am looking for a set of repair manuals and the such. I =
contacted Delorean One in CA and they gave me a price of $142 plus =
shipping. Is that a reasonable price for those materials? Does =
somebody know of a different source?

Second - When I purchased the car which has 32K miles the LAMBDA light =
was on. The dealer I bought it from ordered a replacement oxygen sensor =
but is unsure on how to clear the light. Will it go out automatically =
after replacing the sensor?

Third - The radio doesn't work. I haven't had a lot of time to look at =
this problem yet, but I did check the fuse box and all the fuses are OK. =
From monitoring DMC News I have learned that problems with the fuse box =
is common. I also have a partially melted fuse panel and fuse. I =
replaced the melted fuse with a new even though it was intact. Anyway, =
does anyone have any other suggestions on what might be the problem with =
the radio? It looks like it is getting no power at all. Is there =
another fuse or circuit breaker?

Last for now - Is there anyway to determine if the engine, transmission, =
etc. are the originals? I am pretty sure I do not have the original key =
and am also interested in getting a few blank DeLorean keys.

Hi, while on the key subject, I have two sets of original keys for my car.
Is there any way to make the little flashlight work? I tried new batterys

cleaning, but that doesn't seem to do it. Does anyone out there have a

that
with a flashlight that works? If so, could you draw me a schematic that

I have an 81 DMC project car that I purchased this summer that was

The stainless finish underneath the paint is all scratched up from the
sanding that was done to prepare the surface for paint. My question is
does anyone know what tools to use to restore the finish? I have been
told to get a flap wheel, or belt sander. If you use either one of these
tools what grit paper or flap wheel? Also what grit would one finish it
with? Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Hey there, I saw the same stuff and bought it and used it for the tiles
in my hot tub. I still have the box too and it says DeLorean Grey on it.
I wonder if Mr. DeLorean has shares in the company that makes the grout,
as I have heard rumors of him still being involved in dozens of other
