When I restored my car, I used Rhino Linings' Tuff Stuff polyurethane.
It bonds to steel , wood, plastic, etc. Chemical resistant, tear
resistant,
and has an extremely high tensil strength. Its 100% garuanteed for
the life of the vehicle. Check out http://www.rhinolinings.com,
for more info. After about 2 years on the Delorean and about 6 years
on my truck, Its holding up perfect !

My uncle just told me he spotted a DeLorean

He's a car dealer and is trying to get me hooked up

I believe it was somewhere

owners on this list?
Please respond.
I myself have never spotted a DeLorean.

David, I have recently had the same problem looked at by my mechanic. He
replaced the warm air regulator and the fuel distributor. (the total
bill was about $900!) Apparently there was varnish/deposits in there
from fuel that had gone bad. I've had it back for a few days and it
seems to have fixed the problem, but I am keep my fingers crossed. I
would like to say I hope this helps, but for your sake I hope your
problem is NOT the same. A new fuel distributor alone runs about $614.

Subject: DML: Another radio radio problem story.

I see comments re radios not working and possible solutions.
I had one that I bet has not been seen before. I have had VIN 5962
six months today...I don't remember our anniversary but DO
remember I bought the car on the 5th of April!!

I purchased it from the original owner with 3443 miles on it. He told
me when I picked it up that the radio had never worked on it. He did
not use a radio and had other cars and just never got around to getting
it fixed. Due to a severe hearing loss mainly, I do not run radios in a
car either.

I decided I would like to have EVERYTHING on the car working properly so
checked
out the main fuse in the fuse panel....all were okay. I read where the
radio also has two inline fuses under the dash....Hot and ground lines.
As I don't bend so well anymore (at age 76) I went to a shop that repairs
and installs auto radios and audio systems. The young man stood on
his head under the right side of the dash and found that both lines did
not
HAVE a fuse. The fuse holders were intact but no fuse in them! He
thought that possibly none were put in at the factory and somehow that
never got checked!! New fuses brought it back to life probably for the
first time since it left Ireland.

I doubt if this will help anyone, but thought it was an interesting story.

Hello Ken,

Sound to me like you got a great deal going there! If the DMC is in good
condition, I would take the bank deal. I happen to have paid cash for
mine,
which was in mint condition, and was stored/driven. It still had many of
the "usual" DMC problems. Most I have fixed with a few of the harder jobs
done bt a local shop I am training to be a DMC repair place.

About your insurance.... it's different for every one, each in his/her
own
location, driving record, age etc. you will get lots of different prices
from my DMC pals here on the list. I happen to be in a very high cost area
as far as auto insurance goes, plus I have full coverage with a an
unrealistic de-duck-table of $200. I pay about $600 a year with 20th
Century. todate we have had one claim on a rental last year. They took
care
of the whole deal and did not even mark us down from Good Driver discount
status.

Try Delorean One or PJ Grady for an appraisal. I got a video tape
appraisal of my DMC befor I got it.

Good luck!

Hello Robin and all,

Speaking of DMC Key-blanks and the story of some guy with a sack full for
which he wants $75 each or he will destroy them....What crap!

I have a mold from an original DMC key. If there were enough people
interested I might make custom sets for list members. They would be
identicle to the originals.

About the only way I can see that this would work would be for members to
send in a working key to have the black plastic part added.

The keys can be any color but as I recall they were all Black.

If I got say 25 to 50 list members interested I think the codt would be
about $20 a set of two, not counting the cost of the Keys.

Just a thought....if you are interested just comment here on the list.

	Any ideas are also welcome.

Subject: DML: Re: CAP- Better Description

***RE: What is a "CAP"
Sorry guys, Let me explain a little better.
If u have the Delorean schematic and look in the alternator area it
shows a 3uF capacitor connected to the regulated output terminal of
the alternator to ground.
the "SHOP MANUAL" shows one for the motorola alternator in section
M:05:01
they all show a small capacitor connected to the external lug of the
alternator, its MAIN function is to prevent NOISE in the electrical
system and Radio, THIS NOISE -sometimes- is in the form of VOLTAGE
SPIKES and the "CAP" supresses them. and absorbs the spike. So if
your "CAP" is bad or missing u usually get a lot of radio "buzz" and
noise and a LOT-O-SPIKES, this can cause the clock to go weird or
reset itself, blow fuses, stick relays etc. which was my case.
However with the new 144Amp alternator I put in, the "CAP" is built
in "inside the alternator housing". So I thought if anyone was having
"these types of problems" they should "CHECK THAT CAP"
Thanks

I have had the twin turbo set-up on both my D's and I have been very
satisfied with them. Since I live at 7000' altitude, the already weak
(HP-wise) D engine needs the extra horsepower. I have not experienced any
engine problems as a reult of the turbos. Keep the boost to a reasonable
level (generally agreed to be the the 6lb range) and you should be fine.

Keep in mind that the turbos will not make you "quick off the line", but
at
midrange speeds, they provide sweet performance.

I have friends who have installed single turbos and they have acheived
very
similar results with somewhat less expense.

In the Chicago area you might wish to contact Guy Avellon who has twins on
his D. You can reach him at "gtroadracer@juno.com".

Tom,

Contact Eleanor Rogers @ Turbo Manifold Co., 207 Ridge Rd.,Wheatly
Hts. NY 11798.

I have her units on my car and am quite happy with them. Some of the
castings ( tubing ) leave a lot to be desired but the performance is
quite good.

I believe current prices, kit only, to be around $5,000.00.
Installation extra and she only sells the kit, she doesn't do
installation.

Some thoughts on galvanizing the frame:
1) There are fears that the heat of galvanizing the frame will stress
relieve the frame and could cause warping ... not good
2) Any place there is a hole for a bolt or fitting will fill with zinc.
You'll need to drill and tap these holes if you don't block them off.
3) If you block them off it must be able to withstand the high temps.
If
you use metal, such as screws, you'll find that they'll be "welded" in
the
hole by the zinc.

At least one person has galvanized their frame without issue. When I
refinished/repaired my frame I elected to not take a chance with warpage.
 I
Stripped, patched(uses SS in some places), zinc-chromated, and powder
coated
(1st coat was a zinc rich primer the second was the color coat). I did
galvanize the trailing arms since they take a lot of abuse.

NOTE: I caused myself a problem for alignment when I repaired the bottom
of
the engine crossover. I cut out the bad parts and had a piece of SS
welded
to the bottom of the crossover. Turns out that you use the bottom of the
crossover as a datum point for alignment (it needs to be 5.5 Inched of
the
floor). I need to recalculate that height with the plate in place. I'm
sure it is not much, but ....

Pardon my ignorance, but what is the purpose of the lambda/oxygen sensor;
is
this related in some way to the emission control system? And why have I

You've seen it and just not realized it. For example on my 89 Jeep
Cherokee it was one of those invisible backlit items that you never saw
until the counter reached the magic number; then, voila, a piece of the
dash lit up and said "emission maintenance". Most europeans cars referred
to the "lambda" while US cars say emission or some variation thereof.

You have! Every car has an Engine light, or a Sensor light. They
simply count the mileage and then light up, you then have to take it to
the dealer and pay some amount (in Nissan's case it's 45usd) for them to
check the oxygen sensor and turn off the light. On most cars though,
they stop going off after 90,000.

Nu-Life Color Spray #614 Grey. It's a Laquer base dye that duplicates
the color and finish very well. Used it on my last car, not this one.
Should be available at a leather shop, otherwise the address on the

Subject: DML: Re: Starting Problem (solved)

Earlier this summer I posted a plea for help regarding a frustrating
problem
with my D which continued to get worse as time went on, namely the car
would
start, run well, but after a period of time (which continued to get
shorter)
the car would quit. After a period of time, aprox 2 hours, the car would
restart. I should mention here that the problem was not fuel related,
rather
ignition as at one point after a flame out, I pulled an ignition cable and
inserted a spare plug on hand for this purpose, turned the engine over and
observed there was no spark.
This weekend I replaced the impulse coil in the distributor (which I
determined to be bad by way of performing a resitance check as outlined in
the service manual) and PRESTO !! my car is once again a reliable
vehicle.
Prior to replacing this component I had done all the recomended electrical
maintainance tasks (cleaning connections, fuse holders, etc)
I had received several E mail requests to post the solution if I found
one as
they were experiencing a similar problem. Hopefully this info proves to be
useful to someone.

Subject: DML: Bought My First DeLorean..

Well, I finally purchase my first DeLorean. 1981 #2903 is now mine!

I wanted to thank everyone on the list for all the valuable information.
It proved quite helpful!

I had a few problems during my first weekend with it.

1) My key wouldn't turn in the ignition even after turning the wheel a
bit.
I finally (after several frustrating hours) got this fixed by slight
tapping on the end of the key about three times. Very weird. Anyone
every
experience this unusual problem?

2) My car won't start in the mornings until about the 10th crank. I
assume
this is a sign of bad gas? Is there a quick fix to this so I can start
driving it right away? Ed at D1 scared me to death and said I need to get
it fixed before moving it, but my mechanical skills would only go as far
as
to allow me to drain the tank and replace the pump and filter. Will this
save my engine, or should I ship it off to DMC Houston or D1? I really
don't want to be without my new baby for 6-10 months though.

3) Call me stupid, but what is the Fascia? Is that the piece of plastic
that hangs down under the car?
fascia?

4) What are the main sources for battery drain? I put a new battery in,
but when I turn they key to number II position, the meter only reads 8
volts. I assume something is sucking my battery dry each night? After
the
car gets going and the alternator starts its job, it reads 12-13 volts so
I
guess the meter works OK. I busted my hand so I couldn't remove my
battery
cables so I just removed the main fuses from the box, and this seemed to
work. Is it hard to install a battery kill switch?

5) Is the binnacle hard to replace?

I called DeLorean One, PJ Grady and DMC Houston, and I must admit, my
first
experience with all of them was very good. They all seemed generally
excited about my purchase and went out of their way to tell me what I need
to do first. Ed was pretty intense though! He loves DeLoreans and
doesn't
want anyone messing them up. Are DeLorean's really going to appreciate as
much as his company advertises? If Ed, Rob, or Steve are on this list,
thanks for the advice today.

P.S. I reread all the old mailing list archives and I had three questions.
1) There was going to be a DeLorean CD-ROM. Did that ever get off the
ground? 2) Someone was compiling a FAQ of common problems/fixes from the
mailing list. Did this ever get made? 3) Somebody (I believe Rob Hook)
was in touch with a young man who was going to build a DeLorean model kit.
Is this something everyone has already received?

Thanks again.

reply:

	Jameel and DML,

Some time ago, a long time ago, in another life...I was one of the half
dozen certified Hydrodynamic Towing Tank ship model builders in the USA.
In
those days we were expected to use many exotic materials in building both
surface and submersible tank models. A good deal of this work included
molding techniques. requiring millionth of an inch accuracy. we did
polaris
subs, boeing 727 "T" tails, lifting bodies and more.

These days I am CEO of a software company dealing with 3D modeling/VRML
and all that stuff, part of this includes the business infrastructure
needed to take orders and process credit cards, checks and track
customers,
orders.

When I saw the comments and the re-dic-u-las comment suggesting $75 for a
key it occured to me that "we" of the DML could make our own "Duplicate"
DMC keys, why not use the molds we have, I have the means to both make the
molded end of the key and keep track of the business end. The cost I
suggested is what I guess would cover the actual cost of materials and
shipping.

There are several ways that we could do the key thing. one would be to
find a key pattern that matched the existing DMC original keys. Just make
several hundred and sell them on a first come first serve basis. The
problem I see in this is that every one may not have the original key
patterns or may have replaced the door or ignition Key with a non-matching
type, may have a gas cap key. I don't really want to get in to the general
DMC Key manufacturing business.

Another possible solution might be to have each person wanting DMC-molded
Keys to simply get a copy of their existing key made, and send that copy/s
to our company. no matter what the style or make of this "copy", we could
recut the molded end and re-mold it using the DMC tooling. This approach
would allow DMC owners who wanted the "DMC" key to get a duplicat of their
original key with out having to risk the actual key they use every day
with
their DMC, allow us to do the molded ends with out risking anyone's
original key and keep the cost down. Plus Our company would be covered by
day to day business insurance, which would provide coverage in the event
of
a problem with keys.

I was thinking of doing most of the molding my self, I need some time
away
from my regular office duties and I know the work would be done right. I
can keep cost down by limiting the "fee" to materials and shipping. My
company can do the tracking, receiving and handel the money part. Sence I
have a little pull around the office I can get a DMC-Key account setup to
ensure that the money part stays strigh, and all the tracking, shipping
documents ect and so on are handeled as SOP.
My intention is not to make the DMC-Key a commerical venture, I have no
access to DMC-Key blanks and won't be selling key-blanks. If I do this it
will be a "labor of love" as they say and only for DMC owners and then
just
two keys per owner. I am keeping a list of every one who wants duplicate
DMC-Keys, from the DML.

Again if you are interested, say so......

If you have any ideas on the best way to do this.....say so!

Lee
VIN#5729

BTW there is no set minimum, I am thinking of $20 a set of two keys.
