While surfing around today, I found the following page:
http://infoweb.magi.com/~cvolvo/Repair/B28F.html
Looks like it may be of some help to anyone who needs to replace the
water pump.
I am actually looking to find out if the B28F was ever used in any
Volkswagen cars. I am told it was, but have not found out for sure what
it was used in, and when.... if at all.
With all of the information I have found on the PRV-6, seems like no one
has anything good to say about them, including the B28F version. Oh
well :(

Well,
Silly me, I thought I wasn't affected by the recent conversations regarding
insurance, especially since I have had the same agent/insurance carrier for
15 years covering my 5 cars (and a boat or travel trailer).
ISSUE:
I purchased $400 for an annual "Collector-car" coverage with $50 deductible
for both comp/collision. Which required 2500 miles or less a year, every
driver must have 10 years experience, car must be stored in house garage.
PROBLEM:
I get a letter from the underwriter dept of State Farm that says they will
only honor the original agreement for 30 days, that my comp and collision
deductible will become $1000 / 20%.
I immediately called my agent who was very apologetic, but couldn't resolve.
REMARK:
When getting insurance make sure the underwriter is contacted by the agent
BEFORE you buy the car and GET EVERYTHING IN WRITING. Be aware of this 20%
added LOSS. For example, for math purposes say my car (81 5-speed #2839 -
5,037 miles) is appraised for $26,000 and was unfortunately stolen. My
agent said this is the most likely "total loss".
Then my check from State Farm will ONLY be $20,000 on a $26,000 car.
(while they have been collecting premiums on the higher value).
I was told this would continue even when I convert it to regular insurance
to allow my two son to drive it.
$26,000 <$1,000> = $25,000 <25000x20% or $5,000> = $20,000.
QUESTION:
Anyone out there who has REGULAR insurance with a lower deductible please
contact me directly.
Sincerely

Sifting through Yahoo's auction item i found 3 Chrome plated models of the
Back to the Future DeLoreans at http://auctions.yahoo.com/auction/9497095.
They are exactly the same as the models produced by Ertl a few years back
but how they became crome plated, I have No idea.
The seller says they are NOT put together.
Just thought someone here might be interested.

Yahoo.com has a "Cars of the Century" section where they list there ideas
and people can post their opinions and stuff. On Yahoo's list is the 1966
GTO w/ proper recognition given to JZD. Below are the links and the actual
text of the main article for those who can't "surf" the web.

1966-67 Pontiac GTO
John Z. DeLorean started the muscle car craze when he shoved a large engine
under the hood of a mid-size Lemans and called it a GTO option. Winding his
way around corporate red tape, DeLorean succeeded in side-stepping the
company's policy against offering mid-sized cars with the high-performance
engines. Sales were hard to ignore, however, and in 1966 the GTO was listed
as a separate series.
Even though the 1964 Tempest Lemans GTO started it all, the good looks of
the newly designed 1966-67 models kept the GTO muscle on the right track.
The three-box styling was now gone in favor of nicely sculptured body sides
along with an intense and aggressive look to the front end. Engine choices
included the 389cid/335-horsepower V8, as well as a 400cid/360-horse
available in 1967. No wonder front license plates on GTOs always say,
"GRRRR."

erik if you call one of the delorean vendors they may be able to
recommend a shop that they do biz with. grady in n.y. ships all
over the country to small shops. if no one will touch the
transmission you may have to find someone to remove it and then ship
to a delorean shop for repair.it is simple to r/r the trans,
will it's out do the clutch and possibly the slave cyl,
definetly do the hose if it hasn't been upgraded to the steel btaided>

Subject: [DML] PCV System..
Mime-Version: 1.0
Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii
Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit
Pulling in to traffic yesterday, I stomped on the gas. A 1/2 mile or so
later I saw smoke coming from the engine compartment. I quickly pulled
over, grabbed the fire extinguisher, and opened the cover. The smoke
was comming from the passenger side exhaust area. I looked under the
car and saw a oil slick on the frame behind the turbo. I figured I
busted the oil line to the turbo.
After closer inspection, I saw the oil was driping from the air filter
housing! (See http://remus.rutgers.edu/~mxl/dmc/Ser6-08.JPG to get an
idea of what I am talking about)
It seems that with the turbos under full boost, the stock air box is too
restrictive, and caused enuff vaccum to pull oil in through the PCV
tube. I removed the air box, and filter. There was a oil slick on the
filter where the PCV port is.
I guess I never realy put much thought in to it, but I always assumed
that the PCV tube hooked to the air box was to suck the gasses out of
the crankcase. But then I got to thinking, where does the air come in
to the crankcase?
I did a quick search on the net and found a good page that explains in
detail the PCV system (in general, not DMC specific) at
http://www.njautosite.com/garage/encyclop/ency08b.html
Based on that page, it would seem that the tube attached to the air box
is where the air gets sucked in to the crank case. That kind of makes
sense now, because the vaccum would need to come from someplace beyond
the throttle plates. So, where does this vaccum come from? There is no
PCV valve, so I guess it uses some other method to acheive the desired
results. If the vaccum is taken from some place beyond the throttle
plates, then when I go in to boost the crankcase will then become
pressurized and in theory help push the oil out in to the air box!
I guess I should also take a look at the hose routing diagram, but I did
not have time to do that yesterday. Either way, anyone have a good
explination on how the system work in the De Lorean, and where the vital
parts are?
Thanks,

Well, as for a cheery rebuttal, all I can give is this story. When my fuel
pump went out, I was at the end of the reach of my technical knowhow (which
is about as far as replacing a fuse or two) so I called a place here in town
that is well known for working on foreign cars. I told him that I had a fuel
problem, and then told him what kind of car it was. His first reaction
worried me, he said "let me transfer you to the owner". When I told him my
problem, he was just like, "ok, let me make you an appointment." Not only did
he fix that, he gave the car a good once over for me and recommended some
stuff that I do to it. Not stuff that he could do but things I could do.
How many mechanics would do that?

Crutchfield is a well known online/mail order stereo company that deals in
just about any form of stereo, be it home or car. Although I can't argue with
the fact they are very good, I also have to say that a DeLorean is not
anywhere in their database (at least not in the woman's I talked to) so I
would say you would probably have to pull the radio first to get it's
dimensions. They can be found at http://www.crutchfield.com

Hello everyone!
I was wondering if there's someone out there who has a quality mastertape of
the DeLorean Commercial "Live the Dream!". As far as I know there are two
versions - one short and one slightly longer. (The short one is the same as
the Internet-download commercial)
I do have a copy of both these commercials but the quality is poor. Can
someone please make quality copies of a mastertape. Does anyone on this list
have the mastertape in their possession? Im sure everyone on this list would
be interested in obtaining a quality copy. What ad-company made this
commercial anyway? Maybe they still have it in their archive?
TIP FOR THE DELOREAN OWNERS ASSOCIATION: GET HOLD OF THIS COMMERCIAL.
ANOTHER TIP FOR THE DELOREAN OWNERS ASSOCIATION: GET THE RIGHTS TO PRODUCE
AND SELL THE 1981 DOCUMENTARY ON THE DELOREAN - MADE BY REKNOWN FILMMAKERS
CHRIS HEGEDUS AND PENNEBAKER.
Best wishes

Could this be caused by an under charged system?

My husband owns a DeLeorean, and I work for Allstate (in Texas). The
questions regarding insurance have been brought to my attention, so I wanted
to make a few comments. First of all, insurance varies by state as each
state is regulated by its own Board of Insurance. In Texas, cars that have
been involved in a loss (whether it be an accident, total loss or what have
you), are paid out on an "actual cash value" basis -- that is the value of
the car at the time of the loss. I suggest that all owners of
"special/classic, etc" cars maintain pictures, all maintanence records and
anything else that could be valueable when it comes to an insurance claim.
Insurance companies do maintain "unacceptable vehicle" lists of which most
have DeLoreans on them. When a person wants to insure one of these vehicles
they normally pay a higher premium, there are exceptions -- if there are no
under age drivers in the household, no claims/tickets/accidents in the last
39 months and how long a person has been insured by that particular company.
We have our auto and home insurance through Allstate and have had these
policies for 2 1/2 years. On our auto policy we have 2 1998 Mustangs and my
husbands 1982 DeLorean. We have a $200 Comp/Collision deductible and pay
$324/6 months for the D. -- hope this helps!

Fellow DMCer's,
As posted the other day the new Alan Parsons album (The Time Machine) does
have a Delorean on it (in the wings up position). It is a small photo but
clearly a Delorean. Looks to be a European model as the lic on the front is
white with black lettering. Hard to read but looks like DGS 803X. If the
owner is lurking out there, how about the "rest of the story". Martin G. this
maybe one of your mates (as album was recorded in England). Also if anyone
with better eyes can read it clearer, please post the number. (a sure sign
I'm getting older). For a look at the cover ( I bought one, as I like Alan
Parsons) go to http://www.interlog.com/~avenue. Click on the new album link
and see it for yourself.

I bought new trunk struts from one of the distributors recommended by this
list (on this list). With the new trunk struts does a person still have to
lift the trunk lid for the first two feet to get to started on its way up or
did I get a bad set of struts?
I'm getting the D ready for my wife to drive and I don't think she can pull
the trunk handle and lift the trunk lid at the same time.

inline fuse, going to the relay, just died. i thought that the mast was
dirty or in need of lube, so i cleaned it and put some light lube on it. i
then replaced the fuse and it seemed to work fine. tonite, on my way home,
it didnt come up when i turned on the radio. anyone have any advise???

It appears from your picture that someone installed that relay to activate
the field portion of the alternator. There is a much simpler way to
accomplish this. Go ahead and install the unit, if it works OK than leave
it alone, if not, let us know so that we can tell you what to do.

does the compressor stop cycling ?

The PRV-6 is best known for its application in all Volvo 1980-1985 260/760
GLE series cars, there were no Volkswagen applications. Contrary to what
you have heard, the B-28F (late series) and B-280 are one of the most
durable import engines ever built. Our D, #3370, has over 260K trouble free
miles and my personal 90 Volvo (B-280) has over 150K miles.
Concerning the web-site that you refereed to, the individual who published
this information says he is a mechanic yet he said it took him 3 days to do
a 5 hour procedure.

This is an easy question to answer, go to D:06:02 of your Workshop Manual
for an explanation on how the "closed crankcase system" works.
