There is going to be a car show at Orangeburg-Calhoun Technical College on Saturday, November 6. The show is in its fourth year and offers many awards and door prizes. I think it would be a great opportunity for those of us in South Carolina and neighboring states with DMC's to get together. There are several motels and restuarants located near the campus. Perhaps we could all go out after the show and get to know our fellow DMC owners from our own backyard.
For more info on the show and to get a registration form, call Don Gaskins at 1-803-536-0311 ext. 1304.
I hope to see lots of DeLorean owners and enthusiasts at the show. If you have any questions about accomidations, please email me privately.

The originals floor mats were all black as far as I know. PJ Gradys has some nice gray ones for about $130 (that I have in my car) also available in black, they are reproductions that actually fit better then the originals. DMC Houston also has both colors but I don't remember the price. If you want the original mats there is a brand new set of original black floor mats for sale on ebay this week that are sure to sell for more then the reproductions would cost you.

Hello, Does anyone know exactly how many DeLoreans are left in the world? Would it be possible to make a survey among the insurance companies? Or in a database of registered vehicles?
I guess the major parts suppliers will have nearly all that info. How about making this info available? In Norway we have lots of carclubs that publish registry info on special car. The important thing is that such a registry only contains info on the special cars, and NOT the owners or whereabouts.
The way I see it, if the goal is to boost the DeLoreans' value, then this info is of major importance.

I've sort of wondered this myself, as the struts for my trunk perform similarly. I have found, however, that if I pull and release the latch normally, the hood will be repositioned such that I can then pull up the trunk without having to hold the pull handle. Perhaps your situation is similar?
Either that, or I guess you can just use this as a good excuse for you to drive the car. :-)

The fuel smell is a chronic problem that is often much easier to correct than might be expected. Although you smell it in the AC it is most likely in the fill tube or over flow connections.
You might try some of these possibilities:
1. Don't top off or over fill, don't fill the fill neck with fuel.
2. Wipe up any spilt fuel after a fill up....even a few stray drops will cause an odor.
3. Check the clamps on the main fill hose and the over flow hose, over time these can leak ever so slightly. You can just tighten them a turn or remove and clean the hose and the connection then re install and clamp with new stainless clamps.
Good Luck

James,
I used to have the same problem that you describe and also replaced
everything you mentioned as well. The source of your smell may be coming
from the fuel sending unit. It should have a rubber gasket to seal the area.
If someone has accessed this area before, the gasket may not be aligned
correctly. It has a notch in it that must be seated correctly to seal
properly. Since it's fix, I have not noticed the fuel smell (credit to the
repair person Starling 1999). Take a look, hope this helps.

Dear DML,
I have been researching the history of my D this week. I have traced
the history of the car back to the owner in 1984, though she doesn't know if
she was the original owner! She says she bought it from a dealer in Cary, NC
which is just outside Raleigh, NC. Can any of you with dealer information
books look to see if there were any dealers in either of those two cities?
Thank you, Darren Decker #5000

Stian,
. The concept of Insurance companies and DeLorean parts suppliers supplying information wont work for the following reasons. Many, and I mean many, Deloreans are in storage with a high percentage not insured or registered. Additionally insurance companies are not very willing to release any database information.
The DeLorean parts suppliers will not insure a great deal of accuracy because many owners purchase parts through hundreds of service facilities aroun the world.
Lastly the high number of purchase and sales of DeLoreans makes it difficult to track all the Vin's.

I've researched the commercial a little bit, but not fully. I called KNBC-TV in Los Angeles asking them about their archives for both the "Live the Dream" commercial, and the episode of "Donahue" with JZD as the guest. The man on the phone (program director I think) said that after a period of time (specified by the producers of the show/advertisement) all tapes are destroyed. For copies you have to contact the producers. I don't have any books with me right now, but the name of the Ad Company is listed in either "De Lorean", or "Hard Driving". In "Stainless Steel Illusion", it mentions that JZD, C.R. "Dick" Brown, and Muar Dubin keept clashing on which ad(s) to run, so many ad campaigns were cancelled. Because of this it is very possible that many more newspaper/magazine/T.V. ads were created that we don't know about. There is of course a chance that the master tapes and templets still exist somewhere, but I doubt it.
