The Northern California DeLorean Motor Club will be having its next club gathering on October 24th at the Winchester Mystery House in San Jose California. Our gathering time is 10AM. We have reserved a section of the parking lot for our cars and from 11AM to noon we have reserved the 'Winchester room' for a buffet lunch. At noon, we'll begin our tour of the house. The price, per person is only $5.00 for the lunch and $11.00 for the tour.
The meeting room will give us a chance to discuss what activities we'd like to have in 2000. I will need to RSVP the W.M.H. with the total number of people and cars so please let me know if you can come.
For more information on the Winchester Mystery House and for driving directions see:

Did everyone see the cars the star the Delorean looked great and Quentin Wilson did not give it too much of a ear bashing. Any way I recorded it so if people are looking for a copy I might be able to arrange something. Simon Lees Milne did a class job as you'd expect when he is part of the best club in the country!.
Cheers
(p.s. I can't help feeling somewhat responsible for the appearance of the Delorean on 'the cars the star' after mailing Quentin about 9 months ago and getting an almost instant response from him in an on line chat session)

Dear all,
Well, it was on tonight, and although not a complete slagging off, we certainly didn't come off well. The program (AFAIK) accurately portrayed the Company and the Man, but we were treated to rather a hatchet-job on the car. For a report, please visit the website.

Dear List, I too have this problem. This past week I finished the reinstallation of new headliners from PJ Grady and had my mechanic put on new brakes, rotors etc... Before I put in the new headliners I had the very same problem that Rick had. I got in the car one day and the driver's seat was soaking wet. Well I hoped this problem would be over after I got new headliners, cleaned the water channels around the door and put the seal back in place.
Well this weekend, my D and I went to Homecoming in Radford, VA. It rained like crazy on Saturday evening. I didn't check the D during the night thinking the water problem had been solved. I was WRONG. I got in this a.m. and found a soaked seat and a damp steering wheel.
There is no material from the ceiling wicking up water, and from what I could tell, the ceiling panels were dry. Any ideas?

I have only posted the web site for one day and already the rumors are buzzing
The first one is that some convention has taken the hotel rooms and I have none left That is not true There are 40 rooms with King Size beds and 40 rooms withe Double Beds on contract for a total of 80 rooms. The Cincinnati show used up 68 rooms. 5 rooms have already been taken. I do suggest making the reservations early. You can always cancel and it won't be charged to your card until the day of the event. You can help me by making the early reservation since when I sell out half (40) rooms they will free up another 40 for me if available. And there are alternative hotel sites if you want to bargain shop but they are 20 minutes away.
Second rumor I wish was true and that is that John DeLorean will be there I will try but I have not contacted him yet Anyone else wishing to try is certanly welcome to do so I will pay his travel expense if he does come.
I will post any changes on the web page since I do not plan on responding to rumors beyond this point. The web page will be kept up to date and I reserve the right to add a few little surprises here and there.
Thanks for all the support by e-mail.

Well, gratz on the concept of purchasing a D :-) (Excellent choice ... I'll have mine eventually also ...) The problem with buying a painted D is that the prep work involved with doing a GOOD paint job on stainless requires (according to other information on the list) that the stainless is acid etched(?) which often ruins the texturing on the stainless panels and makes it virtually impossible to restore to it's original finish. Also somthing to watch out for is that psint jobs _sometimes_ are used to handle stainless panel damage ... just somthing to think about :-)
Check the old archives tho at http://www.dmcnews.com there have been some discussions previously about painted D's.

I received an e-mail from edition owner 032/64 which in part threatened to post "his analysis" of what amounts to an accusation of fraud I am perpetrating on the DML. The only solution I can see at this point is to post the e-mail first. Every one has to make up their minds for them selves.
For the record, I am as I have said changed the way I am fulfilling my edition commitment as follows. I am creating all the parts and bits required to assemble the remaining 55 kits or so. When the assembly is completed, all editions will be shipped just as quickly as possible. Shipping methods have been changed as a result of an edition owner attempting to get and sell a replacement kit. Be for I just shipped by UPS insured, Now each kit will require an adult signature - which means a re verification of the shipping address.
The owner of edition 032 is the last refund that will be made. The reason is simple and easy to understand, the edition reserves I held to make refunds was used to purchase the remaining materials for the balance of the edition. So far every one who has received their edition has had nothing but good things to say about their editions.
There is no question that this whole project has taken way to long, cost way to much....maybe this is an echo from the Delorean past?.....with this difference......If you have paid of an edition then you will get an edition. The project has in some ways taken over my life, every evening after supper I spend most of my time working on the kits. I have done little else this year. When there is time I make a few keys, which take very little time, but as any one who has gotten them from me, can wait quite some time.
I don't wish to start a debate or waist DML space with this new latest attack on my limited edition. Nor do I feel the need to comment past this : Every time some one feels the need to attempt to force me to just drop every thing and do their kit, it just delays all the kits, I could have gotten a pair of gullwing doors or a hood done in the time I have spent on this post.
No one is being cheated out of their money, every one who owns a kit will get it, when it does finally arrive, and you open it and see that every thing I have posted was as I said it was, perhaps you will appreciate just how much time and effort goes into producing each and every kit.
As I posted to former owner #032 attacking me, threatening to expose me, insisting I drop every one else's edition and create his edition is simply a waist of time. I have changed how I will execute the edition. Like it or not thats how it is. I am coming to the point where I don't care what any one else wants or likes. I intend to finish my work and distribute the edition the way I see fit. Frankly I am fed up with all the petty crap I have gotten so far. I thought that DeLorean owners were a cut above the rest! but I see that I was wrong.
The analysis, if you can call it that, meant to expose me as a fraud and a thief follows.......

In my profession
-law, I don't take a retainer promising prompt sevices and then neglect
them when later someone else comes along wih a more recent check. Maybe
thats ok with you, but I daresay many would agree with me.
We have a contract, paid in full at your request, which you cannot break
at your whim just because you diagree with my use of the word"
excuse". Your performance is way past due and a refund on a contract for
a unique work of art such a this justifies damages against you which
are either the difference of what the contract price is and what the
present market for a kit is ($400-$1000+) or the cost of having
duplicated a like kit including the edition factor etc.
You claim no profit but have also stated that the revenue is paying for
the casing equipment. Noone qustioned your price or your right to a
profit. We agreed to whatever price you asked and paid in good faith.
There was nothing said or reserved to surcharge us for more shipping
based upon your sending a second kit to soneone or their alledged
dishonesty.
Finally I have read your annoucements, your kit website, and all your
DML posts about the duplicate kit problem and you have never said that
you were waiting to finish all of the kits before sending any more out.
There is no justifable reason for that. except to keep the remaining
purchasers in the dark for even a longer time.
Unless you reconsider, the DML and whoever else should know my analysis
of this will know and I will pursue any and all remedies I have
according to law.

I am not going to respond to this critical analysis above.
If you are in the dark!....turn on the lights........
Please don't use the DML for this stuff, send me private e-mail if you wish.......
That's all I am through now.......

Paint removal from a DeLorean is extremely labor intensive and must be left to a professional. After the paint is removed the panels will have to be re-brushed. Not recommended.

Mime-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit
Well.... We didn't have enought DeLoreans to have the special class, but those of us who went had a blast.
I think the weather on Saturday scared a few people off, although it cleared off and was a beautiful day on Sunday for the autocross. Plus we had a couple of people with mechanical problems who couldn't bring their D's. Anyway, we had two DeLoreans actually run, with a total of 3 drivers. My wife and I both drove our car, and Cecil Longwisch drove his. Bill Swilley got out to the site a little too late to participate, but I gave him a ride as a passenger on my last run of the day. Marty Maier and Jonathan Heslop weren't able to make it with their DeLoreans, but came out and ran different cars with us.
I should have some still shots out on my web site by Wednesday or Thursday. I'm also going to put an AVI or two from the in-car video out on the web site by this weekend. We shot all four of my wife's runs, and three of mine from inside the car. And I *think* she got some video of me partially spinning the car while giving Bill a ride on the one run where we pulled the camcorder out. I'll post a URL when they're up.
Anyway, a fun time was had by all, even though we had fewer DeLoreans participating than I had hoped. Thanks to everyone who came out!

I recently had the pleasure of participating in the Concours competition at the DMC Expo in St. Louis and thought I would share some of my experiences. First, I must say that I have never seen a lineup of such exceptional high-quality and meticulously prepared DeLoreans in my life. Eight cars were entered in the competition and without exception they were outstanding examples of the marque.
Being new to judging, I must admit I was a bit hesitant and anxious about the potential issues surrounding judging. My thanks to James Espey and Steven Wynne at DMC (Houston) for arranging the competition and making the event fun and rewarding. Based in my experience with this event I would not hesitate recommeding participation in event judging to others. I also found that without exception all participants were gracious and helpful and have to admit my hesitation going into the event were completely unfounded.
My impression is that the detail in judging at this event set a new standard for concours competition. Six judges covered different aspects of the car (I had the pleasure of judged interiors). Although I'm not sure precisely the amount of time the other judges took per car (I was a little slower than most), I spent on average about 30 minutes per car -- so each car underwent nearly 3 hours of detailed judging overall. In preparing for the event, James at DMC had clearly done his homework and had produced a very detailed and comprehensive judging handbook/checklist that gives some impression of the detail involved (you can probably find a copy of the judging handbook and checklists at the DMC web page at www.usadmc.com). I didn't discover until the next morning the physical exhertion involved in some of the judging -- after having crouched and squatted for the better part of 4 hours for the judging, I could barely walk to the shower the next morning (I still struggle with the stairs around here and walk rather stiff-legged).
Congratulations to all the concours participants for their exceptional cars. Their meticulous attention to detail really showed.
My upcoming newsletter will include a detailed report of the event as well as a list of some of the more common items I discovered in the process.

Sorry, but the wheels were amde elsewhere, not at the factory, and the dates on the wheels are the dates that the wheels were cast, not the date that the car was made.

It depends on how the paint was originally applied. Frequently the SS is acid-etched when paint is applied, this will make restoring the finish very difficult. Painted cars are also frequently victims of bondo body repair, which you may uncover when you remove the paint.
Your best bet is to just buy an unpainted car.
