Can someone shed any light on this...
In the magazine "Car South Africa", May 1982 there is an article on DeLoreans for sale in South Africa. The price was R60.000... How much is that in US$?
The importer was Meerneed International, an import/export company.
Are there any South African DeLorean owners on this list??? Does anyone know how many cars that actually found their way to South Africa?
Since this article was written in May 1982 I'd guess that the VIN numbers were in the late 11.000 series... And there are also reports on DeLoreans finding their ways to Kuwait and Saudi-Arabia.

I would like to thank all the competitors, expo attendees and vendors that made the Concours and Products Fair held as part of the DeLorean Owners Association Expo in St. Louis this past weekend.
A very, very special thanks the Millennium Judges, who so graciously gave up part of the weekend to judge the concours cars at the event. Never before has there been such detail in a DeLorean concours, and the judges performed their task in a thorough and objective manner. I hope that they will take some time once more and share their thoughts on the show with the rest of the DeLorean Mailing List.
The judges for this event were:
Marty Maier, Engine Compartment Bill Swilley, Operating Controls Knut Grimsrud, Interior Mike Substelny, Undercarriage Patti Substelny, Exterior Ken Montgomery, Luggage Compartment
Competing in the concours were:
Scott and Shirley Lieber Don Gowler James and Kris Smith Chad and Karen Lange Ken Koncelik Joe Candella Phillip Pratt John Yerskey and Bill Winegard
The final results of the concours judging were announced Saturday evening at the Oktoberfest Ball. For those who were unable to attend, the awards were presented as follows:
Concours First Place, with 285.5 out of 300 points, James & Kris Smith Second Place, with 282.5 out of 300 points, Scott and Shirley Lieber Third Place, with 273.25 out of 300 points, Ken Koncelik
Competing in People Choice Competition were:
Richard Cutter Bill Swilley Ken Cooley
Bill Swilley took first place in the Peoples Choice competition with his 170,000 mile 1981 DdeLorean, while Richard Cutter came in second with his 1981 DeLorean that he had modified by installing a Cadillac Northstar V-8 engine.
My thanks again to all involved with the event, and I hope to see and meet more of you at Ken's event in Cleveland next June, as well as at the next Association Expo next November in Las Vegas.

After reading the transcript on "The Car's the Star" on the British DeLorean website, I feel that I have to comment on that...
I get a feeling that there are lots of DMC documentaries that put the DeLorean in a bad spot. What could this community do with this trend?
Maybe it is time for us to make a real documentary, a long documentary, maybe even a series of several programmes, covering all aspects of the car and the company.
It is bound to cost some money, but there is probably a market for car documentaries. It would be fantastic if a TV station got interested.Imagine what this group could do together. Imagine what this would mean in positive publicity and to boost the DeLorean's value. If such an effort could be organized in some way, getting DeLorean shots from all over the world and showing everyone how popular the car really is, I think we would have a winner.
Best wishes Stian Birkeland NORWAY

I don't think you should sell your Delorean because of your wife. Too many people I've talked to have sold cars under similar circumstances (just dumped a bunch of money into the car and now the wife says get rid of it) and then regretted it in years to come and wished they didn't do it. It sounds like you just took the big $6k hit, the damage is done so now isn't the time to sell it. Remember you can always get another wife but you may never have another Delorean! Ok I admit it, I only had the nerve to write the last sentence because I know there is no chance my wife will ever see this posting).

Is there some kind of trick to keeping the turn signal flasher from failing? I'm about to install my third flasher in the last 18 months and I have no confidence that this one will last any longer.
On a related note, has anyone had a tachometer failure? Mine winked out over the weekend. I haven't had a chance to debug it yet, but the idle control and the engine management system still works, so the problem is either in the tach itself, the insturment cluster flex circuit, or the wiring harness to the dash.

Is it possible to fit a PRV engine from the Renault GTA? Is it possible to fit the Renault GTA's transmission?
If the answer is yes to both these questions, then the DeLorean would have the following specs.:

The D will not start and the fuel pump does not work. If I apply 12 volts to it then it runs and if I take the line loose I get gas flow. We can=92t find the fuse for the gas pump but even with the pump running it still does not start. Any help will be appreciated and where can I get a manual or diagram for the wiring.

I don't care when the car was built...
I am looking for a cross reference between VIN and chassis number, engine number, tranny number, etc. How else to know if the car is built from the same parts it left the factory with :-)
I.E. This VIN has this chassis number. This VIN has this engine number or this engine number goes with this chassis and hence this VIN...
If anyone knows where to find this info or who might have it, I'd really like to know.
DMC-Jo
Shop manual and label location. HA! Have a look at your manual and then see if the label is where the manual says it is.

Thanks for the support but she does have a few valid points, mainly that my kids are now too big for a two seater. I have had the car for 5 or 6 years now and it is a burden in some ways. As far as the getting another wife thing, I've already done that and believe me that's more hassle than it's worth. -SweatyEddy

The fuse for the fuel pump is at the top of the fuse panel, in the middle I believe, if I remember correctly. I had a similar problem; my fuel pump wouldn't run, turned out to be the fuse. It had gotten hot enough to melt around it so it wasn't making contact. And just in case, the fuse panel is behind the passenger seat under the carpet.

Supposedly there are minor differences between the DeLorean PRV and other PRVs, but I don't know what they are, other than the oil pan. Supposedly many things that were "right" became "left."
As for the transmission, the Renault R30 (I think that's the designation) is what's used in the DeLorean. You have to take the DeLorean's final drive unit, however.

This is the B28E, is it not? I think the B28F used in the DeLorean was primarily distinguished by its lower compression ratio, required by emissions. But a PRV using a modern multiport fuel injection system and modern catalytic converters, could probably pass emissions easily even with the higher compression.
> POWER 160 BHP AT 5750 RPM > TORQUE 166 LB FT AT 3500 RPM
Certainly a good way to increase naturally aspirated power - but note that it would be harder to turbocharge the higher compression engine.

While checking a few things on my Delorean the other day, I noticed that the front left wheel has some play in it from top to bottom. About 1/2" movement. There is no play in the right wheel. Does this mean its time for new wheel bearings?
Thanks in advance, Steve.

I took a look at the website. They claim the DeLorean they show is a 1980 model. I've never heard 1980 DeLorean. Is this possible? Am I just nuts?

Dear List;
It is with great sadness and reluctance that I
wrie this reply to Lee's distorted airing of what I
intended first as a only slightly miffed private ist inquiry and which,
due to Lee's unexpectedl
and highly undeserved, in my opinion, reaction,
quickly escalated into a tempest.
Back near the beginning ofthe year, as a new
DMCer I wa excited at discovering, thru Lee's
posts that there might be a vacancy inthe
heretofore completely subscribed kit paid group of purchasers. ( I later
learned that there were
indeed either many kits avaiable- through
defetion due to simliar experiences or
exasperation with Lee as I now have
experienced? I dont know, were many kits
avaiable all along? Anyway, I spoke with Lee
and he told me that my kit should be ready
about 30 days after I sent him my credit card #
for payment in full at a quoted figure. When I
got my credit card statement he charged more
but so what, I was getting a kit. Since March,
even though I read many posts about
frustrations and inquiries about kits, both here
and on Lee's site, as well as Lee and Lee's
wife's posts about the numerous delays, I
remained silent and supportive of Lee even
though I had never pai a complete sranger
100pecnt in advance wih my credit card #. as
well based on a promise which was this month
was 6or700 percent overdue. I was prepared to
wait even longer( although Lee seems to admit he has been forced into
other refunds for failure to deliver) even after he theatened to raise
prices etc when he got mad before (apparently
unjustifiably based upon the reply I read here
from the alleged wrongdoer).
What prompted my private e mail below is
stated, as well as his unexpected punative bully like reply, which also
follows in its entirity' Lee punished me for daring to call into
question his
priorities, commitment to promises made,etc/ I
was expecting either an apology, explanation
or both. My fault, from what I had read to th is
point, I should have known who I was dealing
with.I hope the moderator will afford me the same rights that Lee was
given when he was allowed to quote one of my three private e mails to
Lee out of context when he conveniently neglected
to mention how this whole thing started, that I
didnt ask for a refund, that I didnt ask for an
special consideration or priority in getting my
kit, didn't call him a cheat , a fraud , a thief or
imply any of these.... only maybe that he was
neglecting those that had stuck with him without
question ( as to time of delivery of the kits only! in favor of the new
project of selling, in
wholesale amounts a new product- lit key
assemblies. My " legal " responses were only prompted by his highhanded
treatment of a benign private critic; I wasnt, and wont let him either
push me around based upon him controlling the means of production of
something I wanted> I also wont let him misrepresent was was said in
private betwwen us, on the List as a reading of all the emails both
below and in my following supplimental posts containing both his email
first offering me and then, in the same email again taking away my kit,
as well as my last comcillatory message which was answered with his
preemptory strike on the list , BTW Lee never really answered what
first asked. He cant because it now seems there is no defensable
answer.
If your interested, read it all and deside, as I did after reading the
reply of the last poor soul who Lee maligned on the List. Also BTW I
only signed my email to him in that imperial manner to gently lobby
him to discontimue his heraldic closings on the List . Moral : he's
"fed up" and he"doesn't care" anymore as he states Dont question him or
perhaps worse will happen to you as he states me will not refund anyone
else and has "no idea when the kits will ne completed. Lee remember it
was you who decided to go public with this. I started and stayed private
, Lee,=A0Its not my fault you got to this state, whose fault is it?

I note that you failed to include your Reservation number which is 032/61.
You noted that there have been many excuses for delays, I disagree with your term excuse. I have repeated many times that this project to do a limited edition model commission has turned out to be far more time consuming than I had originally thought it would be and have shared the reasons with every one publicly. Creating the kits is not now and has never been a profit making venture. It is a pastime which I do when I have the time, just as I do with the keys. I still have to work like every one else.
Keys take an hour each not including the handling and shipping, kits take several days each over a period of 7 to 10 days of curing and assembly of parts. The entire process is by hand, and every imperfect part is discarded and re done.
I posted recently that because an owner attempted to defraud me of a kit selling a second kit requested to replace a lost in shipment kit on e-bay for $400+ That the only way I could deal with this was to, stop shipping as the kits were completed and hold them all until all were completed, then ship every remaining kit with new updated shipping fees and adult signatures required to prevent a reoccurrence of the attempted theft of a kit.
At this point I really don't know when I will get all the kits done, when they are then and only then will I start shipping again, and even then only if the shipping charges are paid in full.
Of course all this is now moot in your case. Your refund is on it's way.

I was sure I would find a answer to this in the back issues, but no luck.
I went through inspection yesterday, and failed. The guy that put the red sticker on my car said "The HC was a bit high".
I would prefer not to mess with the mixture because this car is Turbocharged (Island Twin). If its not broke, don't fix it.
I have passed inspection with this setup for the past few years, since PJGrady replaced the O2 sensor, and a few other items that were removed when the turbos were installed.
I recently replaced the air filter (if you read my post of a week ago, it became oil drenched when oil was sucked in through the PVC).
So, Is there a quick fix to get it to pass? If I disconnect the PVC hose? disconnect the idle switch? Remove air filter? Maybe some fuel additive?
This weekend is the Fall event for De Lorean Mid Atlantic, and I would be embarrassed to show up with a big red sticker :)
Thanks, Marc

Lee had requested all other replies privately, I'm honoring that and am not interested in fostering a debate on the list of the personalities or legalities involved.
