That's correct, actually it makes no difference what key blank is available, it can even have some kind of plastic top of it's own. These get cut away in the process. I use imported key banks that come from the same OEM manufacture that made the DMC keys. The only difference is that I order the blanks in Brass not stainless, this cuts down on the lock ware. If some one had a 3 key system I could still make keys provided that I get pre-cut blanks, this ensure that the keys will work when the owner gets them back.

What about the cars that were shipped to dealers and sold before there were QAC's? As I understand it, the QAC's weren't opened when the very early D's were shipped.

A lean condition can cause the engine to run hot. It is a bad idea to run the car this way, you can cause serious damage to it. If you have run the engine this way for some time, pull the spark plugs and make sure you have not cooked them. (I have seen a lean run engine kill a set of plugs in less than 10 min of run time!)
I would suggest you look for air leaks. Make sure all of the vacuum hoses are connected, make sure there are no leaks at any of the mating surfaces of the intake, and make sure there are no leaks at the cold start valve. There are a number of hard to find vacuum hose connections, so use the "map" on the inside of the engine cover to find them all.
The "large round valve" under the intake essentially measures the amount of air going in to the engine, and regulated the amount of fuel based on the amount of air. (Similar to a Electronic Mass Airflow Sensor in modern cars). If too much air is entering the engine without going through the "large round valve" then you will have a lean run condition. There should be a small amount of air coming through the cold start valve, and the vapor recovery system.

Is my car overheating??? Quite often when I crank the car, the cooling fans up front come right on. They whirl for a bit then stop, then eventually start again. Recently I was having my car tested for emissions and it had to idle for about 10 to 15 minutes. The fans came on again and this time coolant from the overflow bottle hit the ground. The temperature gauge shows no sign of overheating. It never even touches the 220 mark. This always happens while my car is idling. The car is in Nevada, but the temperature is very cool now so I'd like to dismiss hot weather as a factor.

My point was that in the context of a De Lorean concours competition, a car is considered "better" if it is more original. This is a concept that I (and I think others) disagree with.
It discourages the community from developing modifications to the De Lorean. As a owner always looking for improvements, this is a situation I am not happy about.

Supposedly it will kill the seals and make the transmission leak.
It seems odd to me, too, but that is what I heard (I think I heard it here, actually, but I don't remember from who, and it's also possible that I heard or remember wrong).

You understand incorrectly - the QAC's existed from the very beginning, though their scope changed throughout the company's life. Initially as a "prep center" then very early on as a "rebuild center" (upwards of 40 man hours per car afte the cars reached the states) and then later on as more a "prep center" again.
Things like spare tires, owners manuals and the like were all added here stateside.

"Better" means different things to different people. For someone looking for a clean, original car - the whole point of concours, yes original is better.
For someone to think that an aftermarket muffler bracket is "better" than the factory bracket *** in a concours competition *** is ludicrous.

Hardly. The larget segment of DeLorean owners is now, and will be for some time, IMO, people just like you, Marc.

dear dml
How long will the spare tire last ?(meaning like in storage) will it crumble like in back to the future ? for example if i was to have a flat and i replace the tire with the spare will it pop or something like that wouldn't the spare cause more problem than it will help? i think its very dangerous driving around with 16 year old spare isn't there another tire we could put in there that would fit?
efren 16072 ps what ever happen to hank breer oh and im still looking for a remote control delorean just incase any one know where i can get one. :

Thanks to Rad Dad! Using www.bibliofind.com I found several coppies of Sta= inless Steel Illusion. I found a copy in Pensylvania for $250 (more than I= would typically pay, but....) the book is in excellent condition inside an= d out (including the dust jacket).
Check this site out (if anyone has other "used book search sites" please le= t the rest of us know) it may well be worth your while. Much better than $= 500+ from Amazon

As a bookseller let me tell you that the absolute top price for a pristine copy of SSI is about $325. Amazon.com is trying hard to make up for the $40+ million dollars it lost last year.
Amazon.com, like MOST booksellers, does not stock out-of-print books. When they get an order for one, they do a search. If they find what you want, they buy it at retail and mark it up to "whatever the traffic will bear".
Do your own searches - free - at www.bibliofind.com - or similar out-of-print booksellers.
I have no interest in this venture - I just don't like the way Amazon does business.

Sorry,
After all the discussion I couldn't help but add this:
I thought that a Concours competition was supposed to be not for "original"= cars. But should highlight the way the cars "should" have come from the f= actory.
In our case, I would think a stronger alternator, etc would be a good thing

My point was that in the context of a De Lorean concours competition, a car is considered "better" if it is more original. This is a concept that I (and I think others) disagree with.
It discourages the community from developing modifications to the De Lorean. As a owner always looking for improvements, this is a situation I am not happy about.
