Depending on where the dent is, and if you can't find anyone else to do it. Maybe it would be possible to remove that body panel and ship it either DMC or Grady. Just a thought.

This is another one of those items who's failure rate is directly related to age & use. We have changed very few units the second time around. Most failures are in cars that sit for long periods of time. Because failure of this item is just an inconvenience I don't believe it needs to be replaced until it fails. On the other hand if its an original it is 18 years old, so replacement would be a wise choice.

Hello all! Go and take a look at the video. It's really great! This reporter makes the DeLorean look real good (in comparison to the Quentin Willson's comments). Notice the (unknown) reporter's use of well-spoken language. He creates a suspense, some pauses along with the panning of the camera and suddenly the DeLorean is there! Imagine what this will do to the DeLorean enthusiasts out there. The DeLorean was well-presented as the "time-machine"...or as the reporter put it "...days of week don't matter with this car - it's a DeLorean!
Enthusiastic speech! Then we get a glimpse of Simon Lees-Milne's DeLorean from the inside with Simon dressed up as the Doc. From what I can see, the timepad is actually a calculator (!) and the digital display that suddenly pops out inside the glovebox is a computer-generated image (thanks Martin Gutkowski) superimposed on the back of what seems to be the black pouch of the original DeLorean manual. What is interesting, however, is the "dummy switch" nearest the driver on the centerconsole. It has a red switch in the middle, and according to Martin Gutkowski this is the ONLY FACTORY INSTALLED SWITCH FOR FOGLIGHTS ON THE DELOREAN!
Ah, finally a DeLorean movie that creates excitement for our fine automobile. Great free advertising those few seconds it lasted.
Best wishes Stian Birkeland NORWAY

It depends on the year of your car the Illco X29 is the best fit for later cars and the WB2 blank is for earlier cars although it has to be shortened by 4mm

JZD liked the doors on his Mercedes so much he demanded that his car have them, besides the difficulties faced in mounting and sealing the doors.

You are quite correct Phil. I was quoting a passage from "De Lorean Stainless Steel Illusion" which is obviously incorrect. A whack on John Lamm's knuckles for that! After further research I discovered that the SL designation does indeed stand for "Super Leicht" or "Super Light".
The term "Gullwing" was not an official designation, but rather a nickname. Research reveals that there were only 1400 300SL gullwing coupes produced from 1953 to 1957. That's an average production of less than 300 units per model year. In 1957 the gullwing coupes were discontinued in favor of the 300SL Roadster, of which 1858 were built for model years 1957 to 1963.
As an aside, the sills on the 300SL coupe's gullwing doors were quite high and rather cumbersome to negotiate. Unlike the DeLorean sills, they were only about 10 or 12 inches below the bottom of the window. With the introduction of the Roaster in 1957 the gullwing doors disappeared, never again to return to a production Mercedes.

Dear Ed,
Although Lotus did have a big part in the design of the DMC-12, this has no connection to how the DeLorean looks like the Esprit. The reason is that John DeLorean went to Mr. Guigiaro (ItalDesign) to style his car, incidentally, this is the same company that did (does?) all the design work for Lotus. If you look at other cars styled by Guigiaro, they all look very much the same as the DeLorean and Esprit.
Just thought I'd let you know, Kevin

Hi all,
I just purchased my '83 DMC two weeks ago, and have enjoyed driving it almost everyday...it only has 36k miles on it. It has also been impeccably maintained thru delorean Motor Center, as I have all of the service records.
My problem just started today: when the car is at idle the engine vibrates very much shaking the car. :-( It goes away once you give it some gas and I do not notice it. Once the RPM's increase the vibration goes away, it is like the timing is off or something...I am no Mr. Goodwrench so any help would be appreciated.
Thanks alot,
C

Actually there will be more like 6, but with an underbody and chassis also on display. There will be a "barn" display showing off one of Chris Parnham's cars done up to look like the BTTF car by students at Derby university, and also his newly acquired Euro-spec prototype Right-Hander with 4 MILES ON THE CLOCK!!! It was discovered in a barn, and will be on display in the state it was discovered (your guess is as good as mine!)
BTW, a BIG thanks to everyone who regularly visits the DOC website, as a recognition of the hit-counter hitting 5000 yesterday, I have registered http://www.delorean.co.uk which should be active round about the time you read this!
Best Wishes,
Martin

I think we have flapped our gullwings enough for now. The thread is closed except for the unlikely possibility that something really unique is posted.

Purchase two cans of Krylon semi-flat black paint and follow the directions on the can to restore your sun shade (louvers) to their original factory look. This product can also be used on the vents between the door glass and quarter panel glass and the rear license plate trim.

The blank for the lighted key is an Illco WB2 but you have to shorten it by 4mm you can leave it longer but it doesn't sit quite right in the ignition although it will work.

That's exactly what I was going to say Joe, but let me add, just in case, about removing the vents as it can cause some severe trauma. Also, today, my whole car began shaking violently when it drives, idling is fine. It feels as if it's going across and endless road of speedbumps. Now, I know most people are going to say it's probalby flat spots in the tires, or possibly the belt separating, but I just wanted to get any other ideas before I went and yanked the tires off. So, any ideas?
