I had a similar problem on my car. The problem turned out to be
the switch. I tried to rebuild the switch, but had problems
with reassembly - there is not much material to work with to
reattach the cover. New switches are available from DeLorean One.

I have a few questions. One does anyone know what happened to the prototypes
that were made. Two how much would 2 fenders, a hood, and the grill be for a
delorean. Thanks a lot! Justin

I'm usually one of the 'purist' types who would prefer a stainless steel
finished DeLorean but I must admit, the picture of the black DeLorean
posted in the photo archive on David Takeuchi's DeLorean home page is
pretty nice. Does anybody have any other pictures of a colored
DeLorean?

Also, what's involved with painting a DeLorean? I heard someone talking
about problems with oils in the stainless steel?

Two questions:
What is the mileage & what's wrong with it since you are asking about
$10K less than the usual asking price. Regards, Marv.

Yes I have some experience with a Twin-Turbo DMC. It's parked in my garage
after making a run to Carmel and back over the last two weeks ( 1,700 mi.
total). Great Car!
I bought it used in March from a Dentist who bought it new and had the
turbos put on after-market. The system was put together by Dicor (sic?)
which then became Turbo Manifold Co. I don't know where "Island Turbo" fits.
Eleanor Rogers owns Turbo Manifold and is a really nice person and very
helpful with questions.I don't know who put the system on the car, some
outfit in Walnut Creek, CA. I think. Don't think to much of their work. Seems
sound mechanically, except that the pressure tubes are extremely porous
horrible castings. These will be replaced when I put it away for the winter.
I'll check the rest of the system at the same time. The preceding are just my
observations and don't effect the performance of the car at all.
If you have any specific questions feel free to call me at 503-368-6247.

My initial reaction was that perhaps the switch was malfunctioning, but I'm under
the impression that if the right mirror goes up and down, the left should
also, since the switch uses the same circuitry for each side. What determines
which mirror moves is based on the position of the left/right switch. Therefore,
if the right mirror moves properly, but when the switch is in the left position,
it doesn't go up and down, I would look at the mirror and work backwards from
there. Anybody else got an idea on this?

Subject: Factory publications

In the Winter, 1986 issue of DeLorean World (cover photo is the Legend Industries
Twin Turbo motor), there is an ad on page eight for the following DMC factory
publications (notes in parens are my own): 1. Parts Catalog - (the one we're all familiar with).
2. Technical Owners Guide - Shows disassembly, repair and reassembly procedures
for almost all DeLorean components; includes testing procedures and diagnosis.
3. Technical Information Manual - Prepared by DMC to assist in understanding
the designand general operation of the DeLorean.
4. Preliminary Suggested Warranty Repair Times - Manual showing component codes
and time for labor operations on the DeLorean (obviously only of historical
interest now).
5. Service Bulletins - Service organization, Service Technical, Service Warranty
and Parts Bulletins
6. DMC Parts and Accessories Pricing Guide - Contains suggested retail and dealer
net prices (obviously only of historical interest now).
7. DeLorean Workshop Manual - Over 450 pages...supplements and expands upon book
#2. (I believe this is the shop manual book we're all familiar with, too.)

I have contacted the advertiser, and they no longer offer any items but #1 and #7.
I would like to obtain quality copies of all of the rest of the items.
Does anyone have a copy of any of the above that they would be willing to
have xeroxed for me (at my expense, of course). Email me, please!

Subject: Warning: Check your Parking brake!

Recently I noticed that my parking brakes effectiveness had diminished
considerably, and upon inspection of the parking brake calipers, one of the
arms on the retaining brackets (parts manual page 6-2-1, item #39) had
broken, allowing one end of the outer parking brake pad to "ride" on the
rotor. This pad had worn *considerably* but had not yet visibly damaged the
rotor (though it may be warped, I'm not yet sure). Evidently this bracket
is made of a bronze-type material and has a tendency to break. With a rear
rotor running about $100 each, rear parking brake pads about $50 a set
(BTW, anyone had any luck sourcing these pads locally?) and this retaining
bracket around $20 each, check it out now and avoid the cost later.

Take 20 minutes and pull the rear wheels on your car and check that part
out, especially if you've noticed that your "self-adjusting" parking brake
is no longer very "self-adjusting". Oh, and while you're down there, take
another 20 minutes and check your trailing arm bolts!

Comments/questions welcome!
