I understand that a '82 DeLorean, "believed to be the finest in
existance" (brochure quote, not mine), is being auctioned at Dutchland
Collector Auto Auction October 3,4,5 at Strasburg, PA. It is going no
reserve (along with a Tucker, amoung others..). If anyone is going to
that auction, could you post the sales price of the DMC??? Thanks

LOUVER. i THEN ADDED A THIN .060 PIECE OF METAL IN THE SLIT AND USED A
VERY
HIGH GRADE OF EPOXY 2 PART. WHEN THAT WAS FINISHED CURING i GROUND
THROUGH
THE CRACK AND FILLED IT IN WITH FIBERGLASS RESIN AND A PIECE OF WOVEN

a LITTLE SANDING AND IT IS AS GOOD AS NEW AND HAS NOT GIVEN ME ANY
PROBLEMS.
IT IS AS GOOD AS NEW AND IS NOT ANY BIGGER OR FATTER .

Hi, I had the same problem. Fixed the Louver with POLYFIX thermal fusion
kit from Pegasus Auto Racing Supplies in New berlin Wisconsin, (page 124).
The process fuses the atoms in the plastic back together. It really
works.
Has to, if it's gonna be used in a race car. Call them at 1(800)
688-6946.
Use extreme caution and follow the instructions exactly, this isn't
shade-tree stuff. But it works on ANY plastic. Good luck, Joe

Has anyone changed out their De Lorean Speakers with REALLY HIGH
QUALITY ones? Which brand & size did you use? Were they hard to
replace/get at?
Also, while I'm driving the warning buzzer sometimes comes on. If I
wiggle the key in the ignition it will shut off, but comes on again if I
hit a big bump. Is the ignition normally a faulty item, or could it be a
loose wire? TIA;

Subject: DML: Some Delorean Questions from a newbie...
Hello All,
First, I have read the entire FAQ, and I have a few unanswered
questions:
1. What are your insurance rates like? I live in the Boston,
MA area, so input from people from this part of the country
would be helpful.
2. Would it be a "sin" to get one of these incredible
cars, and park it outside daily? I do not yet have a garage,
and it would be my "everyday driver". How about driving in
the winter?
3. Is there anywhere in the New England area I could
go a look at someone's Delorean, before I go and buy one?
4. Is it worth it to drop $30K for a totally
refurbished Delorean from D1 in CA?
5. Should I try to steer away from the final cars
that were "assembled by management"?
That's all for now - I'm sure I'll have more questions later!!
Thanks in advance,
- Hank

Subject: DML: Possible exhaust leak
I suspected an exhaust leak on the left bank same side as the catalytic
converter or "exhaust purifiyer" as it's called on the part. Well after
removing the muffler, cussing while impressed at the space utilization
around the 4 bolt pattern to the catalytic part. I discovered NO obvious
hole in either the top of the converter or the bottom of the exhaust
manifold. There is a portion of the exhaust gasket toward the rear of
the car that is bent (thin steel layer) and frayed abestos gasket
itself, but doesn't look like it is a potential leak.
By the time you read this i will be under or already out of the garage
and will have taken off the exaust manifold already to examine the
gasket. Any suggestions with prior experience while this babe is
hoisted in the bay with exposed block available ?
How about a good gasket and flange gasket source ?

Subject: DML: Great Car Weekend
While the delorean social club (DOA) was meeting in Snowmass this Labor
Day
weekend, I attended the premier auto event in the Rocky Mountains, The
Steamboat Springs Vintage Car Races and Concours d'Elegance.
Some 20,000 people come to spend the weekend in Steamboat for this annual
event - this year being the 14th consecutive. Additionally, each year a
marque is featured with special lodging and other considerations given to
the marque's club (the chamber would love to have a DeLorean club featured
here). This year featured the National Corvette Restorers Society.
I entered my 83 D in the Concours on a "display only" basis. I felt like
a
Gutenberg Bible between two object d'arts bookends. On one side of my D
was a red Countach and on the other side was a red Testarossa. So here's
my D surrounded by $400,000 worth of automobiles. Now, the kicker is that
more photos were taken of my car than the other two combined. And, when
it
came to questions about the car as well as very positive comments about
not
only it's condition, but D's in general, you would have thought I had the
only exotic car on the street. BTW, there were over 100 cars in the
concours and they ranged from early Fords to 97 Corvette's, Porche's,
Ferrari's and Lamborghini's, plus some beautiful vintage race cars.
Tomorrow, all the cars in the concours will do a lap of the race course so
that all the race spectators can see the cars. (Most of the 200 or so
vintage races wer doing pratice laps today and, thus, those owners didn't
get to the concours.) Then we will watch several classes of racing,
through the streets, with just about every vintage sports car you can
imagine.
In my opinion, this is what car weekends should be all about. Oh, by the
way, for those more socially inclined, we also have flyfishing, balloon
rides, dude ranches, gourmet restaurants and spectacular scenery.
Why did I post this? I think that having the Expo in conjunction with an
event like this ( ANYWHERE - NOT JUST STEAMBOAT) would attract a greater
number of DeLorean owners -- I may be wrong -- just my opinion!

James - another one for the VIN chron, and a hint to anyone else looking
for a potential cheap Delorean, but beware of condition.
Owner unknown, VIN 01192, flap in hood, black interior, automatic,
Indiana.
My Brother-in-Law steered me to this one - he stated that it had been
sitting where it is for "at least 6 months, maybe a year". We went to see
it - the car is very rough, i.e. interior completely shot from the sun,
stainless appears to have been re-grained/buffed the wrong way, wheels
black from weather, and other exterior wear and amateur repaint work on
the facia. Plates are Indiana Fraternal Order of Police "special" plates.
I coudn't tell whether or not they were current. The car is located in
Glen Park (Gary) Indiana at the corner of Grant St and Ridge Road, under
the sign in the parking lot of "The Cave" Restaurant and Liquor store. I
didn't speak to anyone, so it may not be for sale.

as my parents have promised me one as soon as I finish my college degree.
I live in England and was considering travelling to the States to look up

I realise that this is far in the future, but I would be extremely

Scott,
It sounds to me like you have done everything right. Maybe a faulty
accumulator? Hook a pressure guage to the center fitting of the fuel
distributor and check to make sure the lbs. stay up.

> Dear DML and Mr. ACE,
I changed out all my speakers. I used high quality Pioneer 4x10. I
had read in a previous DML how to change the rears. Look into the
archives you will find it. I had to pry back the rear panels and reach
in and grab the old ones... It was a big pain in the @#$# I also
recommed you use brand new high grade speaker wire. The best way to get
at the front ones is to remove the seats. Don't worry there are only
four nuts securing each seat. then lay yourself in their and use a nice
long screwdriver... Beware. You must have 100000% patience for this.
Since the speakers are magnetic putting in new ones and putting the
screws on are a big pain. Oh and make sure you connect up the wiring (I
solder every connection!) before you mount the speakers. Funny thing
happened when I did it. The original craig front speakers sounded
better than the ones I bought. So I left them in! I didn't have any
speaker damage but I put in a new Pioneer top of the line unit and a
pioneer 12 disk changer... It works great now. Oh and make sure if you
do the deck to put padding around it because sometimes you will get
creaky noises when you drive. The buzzer!!!!
Okay... Let me tell you about this thing. When I was working on my car
I noticed that a wire was hanging. I traced it with the parts manual
and found that it went to this little module thing. So I connected it
and BUZZZ!!! I guess my ignition buzzer switch had broken or got jammed
along time ago so they just disconnected it. Once you take that wire
off you are A OKAY! The only problem is that you start to leave your
lights on! :-) I speak from experience. Since my DeLorean is my
everyday driver I now have gotten used to it.
To let the rest know I have only 3 things left on my DeLorean.
1) New Black Leather Seat Covers!
2) Re-do my Headliner
3) Fix my leaky exhaust system.
THEN I AM DONE!!!!! YEAH!!!!!!!!!! until something breaks... :-)
Sincerely,
Jameel

Dear DML and Leon,
I just got back to my college, University of Illinois CHAMPAIGN.
Well anyway. I was driving my DeLorean to school and I toped it out!
It hit 110 mph. And it stays their!!! I use only Amoco Ultimate I have
a new fuel filter Air Filter. I use Syntech 5w 50
with PROLONG. I have brand new bearings up front... actually all new
front suspension, euro springs, shock absorbers, bushings, bearings,
ball joints, you name it! I think my engine has a small exhaust leak.
I hear it sometimes when I acclerate, it only happens at certain rpms
for only a second or two. NEW TIRES all balanced. brand new plugs,
wire, cap, rotor. I don't know what else! The only thing I can think
of is that little switch that should get thrown when the accelerater is
at its full open position does not get thrown. Could it be this
microswitch that is causing it? I have heard people say that 130 mph is
the top speed. I have read it all over the place that it truley is
130!!! So why doesn't my DeLorean go that fast?!!! Well anyway. thanx
for the help!

Since you can use Volvo key blanks, there's a good chance the ignition
switch is from the same company as Volvos' ignition switches are. I own
an '86 Volvo, and had the same symptoms as you. Ocaasionally the
accessory circuit (including headlights,a/c,radio,etc) wouldn't have power
even though the key was in the II position. Wiggling the key would fix
the problem. Appearently some contacts in the ignition switch have a
tendancy to wear down over time. I didn't bother to get mine fixed for a
long time, though mine was never really triggered by bumps. I finally had
it fixed by the dealer, and I don't beleive they had to replace the entire
ignition switch either. So you may want to take it apart or consult the
parts manual or something of that nature and figure out what you need to
do. In the meantime, I will try and find out exactly what the dealer did
to fix the problem in my Volvo.

Hank
Living just a short train ride from NYC, I would strongly suggest that you
visit Rob Grady and fire your questions at him. He is very knowledgeable
and, I believe, very honest. While there you can look at two dozen
DeLoreans, including my old one which I traded in on a refurbished 83.
BTW, a refurbished D from Rob Grady, with warranty, is considerably less
than $30K.
Colorado, where I live, is in the top 10 states in the nation for high
insurance rates. I got mine through AARP (one of the few advantages of
being older) and it costs me less than on my 89 Jeep Cherokee - and that's
with no mileage restrictions. AARP writes through the Hartford so you may
get a decent quote from a Hartford agent even if you are not as ancient as
I.
I live in a ski resort town and we get 300+ inches of snow each year.
While the D handles adequately in snow, it would scare the pants off of me
to drive it in the winter because we have so many tourists driving rental
cars who have no idea how to drive in the winter.
Hope this rambling helps.

Dick,
Having attended a past Steamboat Labor Day Event I know of what you
speak. I
even wrote an article for DeLOREAN WORLD regarding that event. I, like
you,
have appealed to the board for years about scheduling an event for the car
enthusiasts, of which I assumed we all were already. I, like many of us,
have found that these appeals fall on deaf ears. I don't think any of us
harbor ill feelings toward the DOA but we'd just like to see more than
banquets, horse back rides, and balloon rides associated with this
marquee.
I've run my car around the track at Road America more than once and had
the
opportunity to test the car under a variety of conditions that have proved
to me the car has more potential than it is often given credit for. I
think
you know my feelings about this as we've shared the 'trail' on several
occasions. I'd be interested in hearing if there are more out there that
feel they'd like more than banquets and horse back rides in regards to
enjoying their DeLoreans.
