Hi Sean,
I have dealt with this same issue. I did not trust anyone else to take a

crack at my De Lorean, so I pulled these panels myself. I did not use

heat,

but made an unnoticeable cut instead. Unfortunately, I did not take any

photos, but I documented the steps which can be found at

http://www.delorean.org/tgraham/projects/speaker.htm. If you have any

questions, feel free to mail me.
Good luck!

1.	Both of the rear speakers have decided that they have had enough and

died. I (and a local stereo installer) are a little concerned about

un-adhering the "rear quarter trim panel from the door filler panel -

with a

heat gun as the technical manual described due to the age of the car. Has

anyone dealt with removing and reapplying this panel?

Subject: DML: John DeLorean's favorite cars
Here's an article off the AP wire service. It wasn't attached to

anything else so I have no idea what the context is:
Former carmaker John DeLorean gives his favorite spins
LOS ANGELES (AP) -- John DeLorean doesn't make them anymore, but his

passion for cars is clear. The former GM executive has been embroiled

in about 40 legal cases, including cocaine smuggling, bankruptcy and

divorce and a stock swindle.
But he put those worries aside to consider his nine all-time favorite

vehicles for an upcoming issue of Esquire magazine.
"I believe great cars are generally the product of the intellect and

dedication of a single man," he writes.
So perhaps it's not surprising that Henry Ford's Model T tops his

list. His second-best favorite is a car of his own design, the Pontiac

GTO.
Runners-up were the Ferrari GTO, Acura NSX, Austin Mini, Lotus 25,

Mercedes 300SL Gullwing, Mercedes S600 and Citroen SM.
And what does the former designer and builder drive today?
Fourth-favorite, the Acura NSX. "Mechanically, it's a fantastic piece

of equipment," DeLorean writes.

I just used a pair of pliers and a flat-head screwdriver to pry up the

stuff..

I'm sure a heat-gun / hair-drier would have made it easier, but it wasn't

that hard without it... I think the glue is so old it doesn't have much

hold,

and the vinyl is pretty tough stuff... I had both of mine off not too

long

ago,

those rear speakers are the most unusual of all speakers made, what is

it, 4x10 ? Let me know if you find a good set of 'em.. I'd be interested

to know how they sound...

Well, I don't know how serious you are about keeping everything

"perfect" in your D, but you can usually find a pontoon lamp that is

just a little bit longer in a variety of brightnesses (and colors - I have

a blue one in mine), you just have to bend the connector a smige to

make it fit.

Subject: DML: Expo Award Correction
At the DeLorean Expo '98 held in Los Angeles, I was awarded the "Highest

Mileage Award". This was awarded instead of a second place for longest

distance traveled in a DeLorean to the Expo.
It was brought to my attention that the DeLorean Owners that actually

are entitled to the Highest Mileage Award for the EXPO '98 gathering

are:
ROBERT & PENNY POWERS

WOODLANDS, TX
135,000 Miles and still running strong.
This oversite has been corrected and Steve Wynne of DeLorean Motor

Company, Houston Texas will delivery the award to them.
See you in St. Louis.

When my car was being "gone through" by one of the major service

facilities, the fan relay SOCKET which the fanzilla gets plugged into was

removed and the fused jumper was "hard wired" in. It could be undone so I

could use the Fanzilla, but for once I am following the advice "if it

ain't broke, don't fix it".

Yes, but the quality and connection of it is terrible using Real Video and

Audio technology. Not to mention that it is streaming causing constant

pauses

every few seconds. Does anyone know where one can find it converted to

either

a .mov, .avi. or .mpeg format? Any help would be appreciated.

My uncle is looking for a buyer for his '81 5-speed (VIN#2344). It has

about 37,000 miles. He lives in Paradise, CA (between Sacramento and

Redding). The car is immaculate (he's a bit on the anal retentive side,

but don't tell him I said that), and runs great. He's asking $19,500.

If you're interested, give him a call at (530) 872-2068, or drop me an

Mr. Howley,
The only "correct" choice left are the Yokohama's AVS. They are the

correct

sizes and speed rating all around. They meet and exceed the requirements

for

the DeLorean car. Those who have it love them. I don't have any

experiences

with them, maybe in the future as my next set of tires.
The other choice are Pirelli's P600. They are the "correct sizes" all

around

except the front are H rated -- 130 MPH. I don't think you be in the

vicinity of that speed, or will you? The rears are "V" rate -- 149 MPH.

The

Pirelli's are what I have on my DeLorean now. They were the only ones

available when I was shopping for tires back in June 1998 this year.

They are

great! I find them to do justice over Goodyear NTC and Dunlops that I

had.

BBQ at Scotts after the show.
If you bring trick or treat age kids, bring there costumes, they can go

in my nieghborhood, its new and safe, my son will be out there too.
Remember, if we can get twelve cars to commit, Steve Wynne, owner of

DeLorean Motor Company, will come down and put on a tech seminar and I

will be hosting a bbq at my home after the show.
Let me know via private email if you think you would like to attend.
I know there are some cars in Northern FL, LA, MS & a big bunch in GA.
Atlanta is only 5 hours away guys!
All DeLoreans and there owners are welcome, so if I did not mention your

It doesn't matter if you were too stupid the save the info, all that

matters is that you realize that ALL the back issues of the DML are

archived and searchable at:
http://www.dmcnews.com/search.html
Searching on:
"oil leak" and "driver"
came up with numerous matches, one of which I KNOW has your answer...

For those of you with a slow connection you can download the .rm file to

your

computer and play it from there (with realaudio).

If you go directly to http://www.bttf.com/realaudio there are two icons

that

say "spincity.ram", a music note and a paper with a question mark. If you

click on the NOTE you'll see it in the choppy real video way your talking

about, but if you click on the Question mark the whole thing will sort of

download and the commercial is seen in full without stopping or chopping.

It

wont download to your hard drive but you can see the commercial more

clearly.

Hallo Sean,
1. You can use a hair-dryer to loosen the rear quarter trim panel. The =

heat is enough because the adhesive material is old and will even break. =

I took my hair dryer and it works fine. By the way, the speaker from =

QUART will fit perfectly ans they sound great. To reinstall the rear =

quarter panel I took silicon spray.=20
2. The battery strap is a mysterious thing. I have had the same problem. =

My advice: get the original one out and install a new one. I have =

installed a self-adhessive strap. It works great.
3. Get the bulbs from the MAZDA 323 or 626. You can also use the bulbs =

from the RENAULT Fuego. They have 7 Watts and you will have a bright =

light again.
