Saturday May 26 - Busy day, too many photos.
The road to Dunmurry . . . . . .
The entry to the plant as it probably looked 20 years ago (without me of course). It is now a manufacturing plan for Montupet SA, a French company. The product manufactured here is aluminum wheels and cylinder heads for several manufacturers.
George Crane, a Montupet employee and former DMC employee. Our plant tour guide.
There is very little evidence of DMC still at the plant. The most noticeable is the grooves cut into the concrete for the lines that the robotic Tellus carriers followed. It's hard to photograph 1/4 inch grooves cut into concrete. And not much to look at.
George gave us a facinating talk on his experiences at the plant. Very moving, he really emphasised the impact that the presence of the plant had on the local community. Many of his family members were employees as well.
The doors in the background are where newly-made DeLoreans saw daylight for the first time, and headed for the test track.
This is the staging roundabout for the test track.
A DMC makes its way around the track. Drivers were allowed 4 laps and passengers took turns. Sorry, no photos from inside the car, it was a short trip.
One casualty - one car crashed during the event. It clipped the hedge and a
small
brick wall. The results were not pretty.
The helicopter that was used for giving rides around the plant
Fear of flying??
