Care & Feeding - Fuel Economy and Octane Requirements

Fuel economy varies greatly with how you drive. I like to drive my DeLorean the way it was meant to be driven and I get an overall gas mileage of around 18MPG. On the freeway, the gas mileage is very good as at 65MPH in 5th gear you are doing a little less than 2500RPM, so for long cruises the mileage is pretty good. I generally tell people that the gas mileage of my car doesnt matter so much -- its a small price to pay for the driving pleasure.

The DeLorean generally performs best with a "premium" grade gasoline. The manual does not really make it clear whether the minimum recommended octane rating is 91 or 87. Because the DeLorean has a catalytic converter only unleaded fuel may be used.
