Historic Information - Lotus Design Involvement

The engineering and development of the car was primarily done by Lotus. The tab was originally to be $12.5 million to be funnelled from Switzerland through a Panama-registered company called GPD (General Products Development Services, Inc.). The entire suspension and frame was borrowed from the Lotus Elan, and much of the styling was borrowed from the Esprit. Much of the money that "disappeared" from DeLorean Motors was suspected of having been siphoned into Lotus.
